Airlines PNG orders 6 x ATR72-600's

Not sure if there's been any confirmation before? Sorry if it has and there's a more appropriate place for this.

ATR discloses additional ATR72-600 orders made in 2014 - ch-aviation.com

Also looks like quite a few ATR's being sold into the region as well.

Yes with the first aircraft due September 2015!
Should be good for the company assuming BA is kept away from the programme

Quite a few more that will hopefully be kept away from the project. Hopefully it will work out, especially as the competition seem to be self destructing. Good opportunity for the company to get back on track me thinks.

The rate at which ATRs are getting written off in the oceana region I wonder how long these will last?

APNG have big load factors at the moment due Air Niugini down sizing and parking aircraft.
The ATR72-600 will be a nice addition to the ramp.

How will they fund ATRs

Mystified by this!
Business hasnt made a material profit since it went public or no doubt for many years prior to floating. The cash injection from MRDC etc isn't enough to fund the ATR programme.
They sold and leased back half the 100s suspect this was debt clearing ; no doubt at a premium. If they planned to sell the rest to fund the programme that's been compromised with the number available on the market at sub $3.3M.
It's a tuff gig, they may have to put BA being the highest salary in the company on the casual payroll to enable them to fund the programme!

Justa Dash. I seem to remember reading in the Post Courier that Airlines of PNG were going to purchase the aircraft and then sell them to a leasing company, then lease them back.
That is not uncommon with large capital purchases like this. After all as you point out the business has been in the red for many years, not turning a profit since it floated, so it can't possibly have the cash. I should imagine they had to cut costs quite dramatically to get the banks and creditors on board with their plan.

The cash injection they received from the major shareholders and the acquisition of the majority of company from the previous owners was as you say to pay off the debt and try to start and get the Airline profitable.

The next step will be a rebranding, i.e. name change. I should imagine they will keep a few Dash 8 airframes, perhaps the younger ones. Then they will chase the mining work, (with the nice new ATR's) that hopefully will come up. Most of which they lost in the past.

ANG have certainly given them a leg up by pulling the rug from under the pilots, here's hoping that they don't do a similar thing.
Anyhow just a few thoughts from an outsider, thank God.

Money can't buy you love

Slippery little buddys cheque book recruitment policy is not producing. Been trying to replace two "key" personnel for several months and knock backs continue. Lessons not learnt yet it seems. Hang onto the B graders as markets aware of the culture of the EXCO!

Heard recently that they fired a very highly experienced and well respected Captain over an eledged CRM issue.

PNG is NOT the environment for inexperienced PNG pilots (especially Captains) to be flying big turbo props and jets around the mountains

Plot thickens Duck P! Might explain A/CEO (book keeper) out with the cold hard trying to swoon the replacements. Not a lot of confidence in CG management no matter how hard PX try to help. Wouldn't be surprised if the ATR is pushed back 6-12 months to allow the rumoured new CEO time to reassess.

I find it odd that they still haven't released last financial years statement. That's a heck of a delay, shareholders can't be happy? As for the CEO soon to depart rumour I hope it is true. Some former colleagues up there have told me that any trust the company had with the pilots was lost the day Pinochio took over, and the remaining tiny amount of respect for the company was lost the day that TCAS showed up.

Marionette shafted TCAS when he was in Cairns but true to form lied and cajoled him into believing it was the regulator. It's habitual for the little fellow, hence the current exec search programme will be a bit of karma when it's announced. BA has apparently applied but mail is that the corn chip from VLI is looming as a real contender!

Indeed, Pinochio is a masterful used car salesman and TCAS bought the ultimate lemon from him, twice!!

hence the current exec search programme will be a bit of karma when it's announced.
Cant wait. Hopefully Ponochio will go back home and sit in some dark cave doing accountancy work for some dodgy telco, where his true skills belong.

Fun fun fun! A battle royale between BA and the 'corn chip', should be a real hoot.

APNG about to list the remaining company owned fleet for sale. With the amount of 100's on the market, may take awhile. Most unfortunate if the cash is required to keep the ATR project afloat!

This was on the drawing board just before the Dash accident, then got rejected for obvious reasons at the time.

Would the ATR72-600 be a good aircraft for PNG? I heard from a reliable source that the Q400s have been earmarked to go.

3 of the early-model Q400's at PX have gone to Iceland.

Looks like APNG might be rebranding

Losing the Exxon contract (Komo) to PX must be a bit concerning for APNG/PNG Air management with all these shiny new airframes arriving.

Thumbs up

Any idea when the first ATR goes into domestic service?

It great to see that they have taken the plunge to re-fleet with new aircraft.

Loosing a contract isn't the end of the world.

Good luck wantoks 🇵🇬
