I hate to state the obvious but Kendall were a subsidiary of Ansett that went bust in a spectacular fashion. Rex sort of took over the runs. Two entirely different entities. One giving an example of what not to do on regional routes, sometimes referred to as long thin routes.
Let's hope that if Westwing do use the Skytrans name it is given better treatment than the previous owners did to the business name in the last 6 or so years.

Your spelling of Kendell is indicative of the standard and accuracy of the remainder of your post !

More new flights?

Story in Cairns Post: Rex airline will be officially welcomed to Cairns Airport after its first flight from Bamaga

To me, the interesting quote in the story (my emphasis) is:

Rex Queensland State Manager Steve Jones said the airline would make some big announcements at the welcoming ceremony. “There’ll be announcements of new flights, which will be really good for the region,” he said.

Oh my god, Jones at one airline and Thinee with the other one. The legacy of Skytrans continues? You would think that either of these airlines could have dug up decent people from somewhere to work for them? God help FNQ, and please boys please stay away from the Helo operators, thanks!

Amazing! Touting growth when the new QGOV contracts are apparently generating over 450 complaints per month. These include heat stress, OTP, no mail, no coffins etc. Scratch worked for the company that started the same services with no notice and operated with far less than 450 complaints in 5 years. Seems his actions with the transport contracts despite unethical were necessary with recent press on wild aviation. With the amount of ex Skytrans dashes sitting on the old runway at CNS getting these contracts right would be a first priority ( to the extent one can with the wrong equipment).
In the current political climate no matter how big the donations are, one seat will likely cost you power, the gulf and west are bitter about the service and they vote. Suspect the new Skytrans with owner being a Mt Isa boy will step up at a considered pace. Hat trick for scratch is my call!

Geez Justa Dash; I know you don't actually believe that stuff. 450 complaints per month?

Rex are clearly good operators and do a good job everywhere they go. Maybe the original Skytrans were better? Maybe the kiwis should have won the WC. Look at the scoreboard mate.

The thing that confuses me is why people seem to think that the only hot place Rex operates is in Qld.

I'm sure that Rex operate in hot places other than Qld. However the question is.. do they suffer the major tech and performance dramas currently occurring on the Western Qld routes? The very poor service provided to date (in comparison to Skytrans and Macair and Flight West)) have many describing Rex as "running a total root on that route."
The punters out this way are calling the aircraft "Scania's" (not Saab's) because they continually break down, run hot and can't carry a load. A couple of weeks ago, after going tech at Boulia, the Bedourie pax had to drive themselves 180km on mainly dirt road (in their own vehicles) to Birdsville, and the Quilpie pax drive themselves to Charleville to get on the flight that was delayed by 8 hours. Another time, Pax at Toowoomba Wellcamp were left wondering (after paying their $60 taxi fare from town), when the aircraft was going to turn up, as there is very weak mobile phone service, and no-one seemed to know what was happening. They eventually left 7 hours later. The standing joke with Rex arrival times is that the delay will be about the same as it takes you to drive there. Many are carpooling to YBCV and getting on the Qantaslink Dash to YBBN, and then the Airport bus back to YTWB. The mail and freight left behind and small baggage limits are other complaints. Aircraft (being machines) will go tech from time to time, and people generally understand this..but the constant problems with the Saabs have the pax nervous with the aircraft itself, after previously happily flying around in B200's, Metro's and F27's.

So.. can West Wing operating under the old Skytrans AOC still fly (unsubsidised) on the previous Skytrans routes? If they can, I reckon they would get pretty good loads on YBBN YTWB YROM,YBCV route.

Well Beach King the answer is at https://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otphome.aspx where they consistently beat every other regional operator. Maybe these are only cold ports like in Western NSW and regional SA?

Anyone who knew anything about the new contracts on these routes would know that if Rex were as bad as the ex Skytrans staff were saying then they'd be booted or broke by now.

For February 2015, on time performance over all routes operated by participating airlines (Jetstar, Qantas, QantasLink, Regional Express, Tigerair, Virgin Australia and Virgin Australia Regional Airlines) averaged 88.9 per cent for on time departures and 87.0 per cent for on time arrivals. Cancellations represented 1.2 per cent of all scheduled flights. The equivalent figures for February 2014 were 89.4 per cent for departures, 87.6 per cent for arrivals and 1.2 per cent for cancellations.

This month’s figures were above the long term average performance for all routes (83.8 per cent for departures and 82.3 per cent for arrivals). The rate of cancellations was slightly lower than the long term average of 1.3 per cent.

Of the major domestic airlines, Virgin Australia achieved the highest level of on time departures for February 2015 at 91.6 per cent, followed by Qantas at 90.1 per cent, Jetstar at 84.0 per cent and Tigerair at 83.0 per cent. The regional airlines were led by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines at 90.5 per cent, followed by Regional Express at 89.6 per cent and QantasLink at 88.0 per cent
Close enough. They don't list Skytrans, so a comparison 12 months previously cannot be made.
I wish Rex all the best. They employ a lot of Australians, use a lot of Australian support services and provide a much needed service to Australia's regional communities. I just wish they would get their sh*t together in Western Qld and provide a service somewhere close to what was previously available for many years

Rex is a well managed successful business, they have the wrong equipment for a multi sector RPT service of this nature in an operating environment without peer in terms of heat. Skytrans had the reverse good equipment and poor management. Rex staff just have to accept this is going to be a very difficult mission and will impact their network ops stats guaranteed.

Dash 8 issues already, déjà vu?

I imagine that Scratcher is laughing after this weeks issues with the Westwings new Dash operation. I was told there have been breakdowns, money loss, not enough staff, and one night late last week at about 2300 after a breakdown they had no staff to Marshall the aircraft or do the ground handling and the poor pax were furious. Certainly appears to be Skytrans all over again!

And of course he is very busy being Gobbledock on Aunty Spu! It doesn't surprise me that hypocrisy is no barrier to his supposed principles.

they MUST keep staff levels low or wages will kill off any potential profits.

Having known Peter Collings and his team for a number of years I reckon they can make this happen, and wish them the best of British luck.

Ah Look Left, the old Gobbleknobs, my nemesis from when I was known by a different name.
