Skytrans collapse; The truth coming out?

A mate of mine up North sent me the below link from an article in The Australian. It does seem somewhat odd that Skytrans are blaming the Aussie dollar and loss of the TMR contract for their collapse, yet their financial issues started back in 2011? It's also interesting when you look at the scope of how these contracts are awarded, the assessment criteria is split between the airlines reliability, safety and financial viability. All three of these components have been questioned in recent times.
It would be nice to see the truth and facts about the collapse brought out rather than emotive here say and speculation. Skytrans threads seem to get shut down on a very regular basis (nepotism?) so hopefully this one wil stay open if all the kids play nice. This is a significant aviation event particularly for dependant North Queenslanders.

Skytrans is a private company. The owners decided to shutdown. It is their investment and therefore their call. No different to someone deciding to quit their job or retire or sell their house.

Aussies do not support each other

It seems that your aviation industry and people eat on itself and your Government and regulators rub their hands together assisting ( less for them to regulate ).
With SkyTrans being handed to Rex ( Singapore ), and jobs gone from Nth Australia and SkyWest and Tiger gone to Virgin ( Singapore, Air NZ, UAE etc ) and Network allowed to be chewed up by QF ( Emirates and whoever buys domestic ) I see you have very very little Australian owned aviation and basically a TOTAL two airline policy and the two left are not really Australian controlled/owned are they ?????

Your troops are flown by Portuguese or French Air Tahiti A340s and Government cargo flown by Kalitta ( USA ) Volgar (Russia) Airworks NZ and Air Nauru.

Note Yank troops and ALL Government cargo is only flown by US121 Carrier speaking with an American accent.

Keep cutting down your industry, let Jetstar hire half of Thailand for a little longer because there is little left......

4 Holer you've hit the nail on the head. Economic rationalists or unionists control this country...we have no chance of building some industries. The Defence Minister gets sacked for speaking the truth about shipbuilding and producivity...sort of says it all

Perfect summation 4 Holer....

Eventually in Australia it will be time to pay the piper and when it is all the morons will be running around saying "how on earth did this happen?"

- Yup, think that's about right.

'Maybe' 4 Holer's reference, to 'troops' and/or personnel.... to the Middle East- I reckon??

And 'maybe'-
Government cargo flown by Kalitta ( USA ) Volgar (Russia) Airworks NZ and Air Nauru.
- might just be exactly that, freight- outsized loads over big legs/ or 'local' border work to Manus/Naru/Local..... etc...

The whole 'third party charter broker' (offshore flagged airframes) thing has had me somewhat amazed given the 'mission/or pax involved'...., and risk management/mitigation.............. in the times we now exist, vis: the SkyAirWorld & like 'arrangements'....

Anyhoo, hear you 4 Holer.......

Happy New Year all.

There hasn't been an Air Nauru for many years now and I can assure you it's evolution Nauru Airlines hasn't and doesn't carry military freight or government cargo. But after all it is a rumour network and facts don't matter !!!!!!!!!

Their 734 was in MEL just a few weeks ago picking up a plane load of illegal immigrants, heading for Perth and then I assume, Christmas Island. I guess you can class that as "human cargo" for the Immigration Department, so he is correct.

Since when have passengers been considered cargo. 4 holer said cargo not passengers and as I stated there is no Air Nauru and your assumptions about the flight in Melbourne are just that, assumptions, and unfortunately incorrect. They also operate no B737-400s. It also needs to be considered that Nauru Airlines and others I assume although owned overseas have funded a viable operation which employs more than 90% of its pilots in Australia and not from its owners country, so without them there would be a lot of happily employed pilots on very good conditions sitting on the dole queue. As greg 47 said earlier some complain expecting everything on a platter while others work hard at making their own luck

Children, seriously behave. 4 Holer's point is certainly worth consideration and merit. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that whilst we all argue on PPRuNe, in the cockpit or in the public eye that the industry we have chosen is being dismantled.

This thread is about Skytrans, and 4holer's point aside, we (the constituents) have been witness to the QLD government selling out a QLD run/owned business. Ego's/vendetta's aside, there are people out there who worked tirelessly at the coal face and are now left without gainful employment.

So whilst some of you argue about who's right, who's wrong and who said what to whom, remember that there is a human side and that Skytrans provided a service to the greater/wider community.

Let's hope that 2015 brings jobs to those who just lost theirs.

It is about both viability and protection of creditors.

History is full of companies that have imploded in a spectacular manner, Ozjet and SkyAirWorld being two in recent history that both left numerous creditors very (very very) much out of pocket. And not so recently, Ansett and Compass who did the similar. And that is to name just four.

So whilst it may be nice, warm and fuzzy to a FNQ company like SKYTRANS (well the original one was FNQ!!) to work, I can't see that as a reason for putting my taxes into propping up something that aint working.

And 4 Holer, since you mentioned cargo, I guess you could include HeavyLift Cargo as a "no longer" with us Company. However since none of that companies airframes were registered in Aus, I don't think you can blame the Regulator for its demise, could you.

Greg, please let me know which company you fly for so I can avoid you and the inevitable.

It's not just Australia that uses "foreign" aircraft for military and some other government flying. NZ, Canada, UK, USA, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Spain etc have all availed themselves in chartering Antonovs for example. In the Australian context who is going to set up an AOC etc etc, buy or lease one widebody long range machine for a short term low untilisation contract? I think that renting the one offs or extra capacity makes sense. Even the RAAF, USN, RAF and others have "rented" civil air tankers...

Right now we rent big firebombers [C-130 and RJ85 plus S-64/61's] as the capital cost of having them sit idle in Oz for eight months of the year far outweigh the four month "rental" from established operators. As a matter of interest Oz Air Tractors and some helicopters head to Europe in our off-fire season....that's good for Oz companies..
