Spoke to a recruiter yesterday, and they mentioned there was recruiting boards every week til xmas. alternating Regional and Jet boards.

Some candidates are coming from CTC so externals must be open again.

Hudson....when you say "candidates" are coming from CTC...what do you mean? Students or Instructors?

Moresby based for Air NZ Regional? Probably the wrong thread.

NoseGear, if there are any interviewees this round from CTC, they'll most likely be instructors.

The links are short of pilots, but the pilots they are short of are the ones in the left hand seat. Plenty for the right hand seat and still the last few from Eagle to move across between now and mid year. The training departments will be working hard out upgrading those who have the experience which big brother is enforcing for commands in the links.

As for the jet fleet, there are plenty of guys who are putting their names down for the A320, although that number is getting smaller, there is no shortage.

So out of interest what is the experience required for command in the links ?

Would they ever offer direct entry command, or quick command for those who have the experience ?

Surely some of the eagle captains wouldn't take long to be able to skipper a dash but I guess its a case of join at the bottom and wait your turn...

Is seniority based with time in the respective company. But require a certain amount of total time, at least 1000 hours Part 121 time with the respective link operator and have completed at least two Operational Competency Assessments after your check to line, with a pass mark acceptable to the Training Manager, passed a command development course and associated coursework and interview.

Of course this is all variable depending on what requirements Air New Zealand would also like turboprop captains to hold, as the requirements seem to change every six months when word from on high is sent down.

Recruit to group is like a reality show, "line up in front of the celebrity judges..unfortunately, one of you must leave the island today.."

having spoken a few of these "celebrity judges" thats not the message they put out. policy is if you've got an interview, basically they've already decided you're ok. its simply up to you to not balls it up.

they interview say, 10 pilots for 10 spots. if all 10 are up to scratch, then all 10 get yes letters.

Air NZ currently working their way through Jetstar NZ A320 FO's. There is a couple of interview rounds now organised, the first being for 6 pilots this week. Two pilots left J* in the last month direct to the A320 at Air NZ and the interviewees in the next two rounds have been told that if successful they will be completing an abbreviated course and be fast tracked onto the A320.

Interesting times.

Walking a tight rope is easy, you simply put one foot in front of the other, its up to you not to fall off.

I believe that the interviewees from J* had made previous applications before the external recruitment was stopped, so they had the details on file already. The lack of movement from the links in this case is just due to the fact that Air NZ needs A320 FO's quickly and as such has the abbreviated course for type rated candidates.

I am sure that once the current crewing crisis is over then we will be back to internal recruitment.

I can understand why they are taking externals at the moment over those in the Links;

Why would you make your own business (being the Link carriers) run poorly, when you could do the same to your competition by hiring from them?

Anyone who has spent anytime in the Air New Zealand Group realise that the whole operation is Air New Zealand's Train set. They will hire from anywhere they want to to suit what they need at the time.

12 months ago, Eagle was closing down so taking people from the Link airlines means that everyone in Eagle who wanted to stay within the group got the opportunity to interview to stay.

Like everything in Aviation, things have now changed.

Rumours around today that a bunch of Jetstar pilots had the offer of employment today for Air NZ on the A320 and that another round of interviews scheduled in two weeks with 50 pilots needed in total as quick as they can get them. Apparently once the current applications are exhausted then external applications will be re-opened. Prep those CV's everyone.

I would expect a 'big' recruitment drive at Jetstar NZ and Jetstar Australia in the next 6 months. Air NZ also expecting to take 150 pilots this year.
