On a brighter note and in recognition of a life time of achievement. Captain Lekwa Gure retires after 40 years of safe aviating. Credit where it is due chaps.

Captain Lekwa Gure retires after 40 years of safe aviating.
I have an admittedly rather vague idea, that I once met the above mentioned Gentleman one evening at the 'Club Dero,' way back in my 'taim bilong PNG.' (Somewhere between Jan 1990 and mid 92)

Either way, Well done, Sir!

Lekwa was an occasional visitor to the swamp!

Sadly I never had the pleasure of flying with Lekwa although he was always an inspiration to talk to. Congratulations Lekwa (if you read this forum), I wish you all the best for a well deserved retirement.

I had the privilege of associating with Capt. Lekwa Gure during my tenures in the PNG in 2008 and 2012. A true and trustworthy gentleman.
Well done. Best wishes from another island, pretty far away.

Long story, Maus. Goes way back to Ansett days. Would need quite a few beers to retell.

False Advertising

Be aware that the latest PX ads advertise 18 days on 10 days off . This is a falsehood. You will not get 10 consecutive days off and if you live anywhere else but Port Morbid you will be commuting on your "days off" back to your domicile. So in reality you maybe home for only 5 or 6 full days in 28.

Port Morbid not a real option for families with the high cost of education be just one thing to consider.

The average of 2 pilots departing every 3 weeks as reported in post 397 is continuing.

There has been another 3 departures in October with another to be announced this week.

That now makes 100 have left since the arrival of the world's best HR manager and his introduction of the ECP.

Having been shown schedules 123,123A and 123B which shows greatly increased flying, guys are left scratching their heads as to how the schedules could be crewed.

By 123A there will be 3 less Dash skippers, 3 less Fokker F/O's and that is only the ones confirmed. More waiting for start dates or interviews in the new year.

Un rostered flights can only be covered by so called "RES", daily roster changes and extended duty for only so long.

Sooner or later management will have to lower themselves and communicate with those at the coal face,....but then again it would probably be be easier and more face saving just to cut the schedule once again.

PX would be a good study in how it is possible to ground an airline (that by its nature currently a current dependancy on Expats) by totally and wholly alienating its pilot group.

Latest court update from my very reliable source:

The pilot's lawyer filed the required affidavits on 31st Oct.
Poxie now wants to respond and the the judge approved so long as they are received "well before" the 24th Nov which is when a trial date is set.
Reportedly will be before the end of this year.

I notice that since 30 October Qantas have been operating a daily BNE-POM service using a 737. I thought I read somewhere that they were terminating services to PNG at the end of October but it may have been the CNS-POM service I guess.
