Ex J* A332's

With -EBB re-entering QF service yesterday can anyone confirm what, if any IFE has been fitted to the Y cabin?

The press releases have so far been fairly vague regarding these ex J* machines and what facilities they'll be fitted with down the back.

I'm fairly sure they haven't been fitted with the Panasonic eX2 system as fitted to the domestic A332's -EBM onwards, but surely they've had Q-streaming installed using the gear out of some of the B763's now languishing under the Californian sun.

With Qantas slowly getting more A330s from Jetstar, what routes are they going on, I thought they only used them on flight from Perth to the east and international, but they are replacing 767s which are on east coast routes?

Lightbulb

The iPads are supposed to be an interim measure until the new config gets up and going in 12-18 months.

I've heard networks are 'looking' at sending the QF 330's to Darwin. Once the 767's are gone there is a distinct lack of freight capacity into Darwin. Increasing 737 services will cover the shortage of passenger seats. But the freight space in the 737 remains an issue. Especially bulky freight that was containerised in the 767.

So the networking issues mean either cover the shortfall with the dedicated QF freight or service Darwin with the A330.

This freight problem will be a network wide issue with the retirement of the 767 in December.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the A330's operating to CNS. Up against the competitors 320's & 737's.

MC.

Log0008.

The A330 commences Honolulu operations next month.

Early morning services such as BNE-SYD use to be 767. You now have 330's operating some of these services.

But only till December.......(apparently)

Then, I think your choice will only be Hawaiin, or if you must on one star.

Apparently this was from Joyce's latest town hall meeting.

Blue loo

I hadn't heard that. But knowing Joyce it wouldn't surprise me.

Instead of mothballing the owned 744's in storage. Joyce should have deployed them on the HNL run. Looking at the 767 loads that are consistently full. They could have filled the 744.

Use the 400 until mainlines 789's arrived.

With the maint cost per cycle of the 330 can you make money doing BNE-SYD even with a full aircraft?

angryrat - possibly. I mean not even Alan knows where the fleet will be flying.

I believe the context was A330s and specifically Honolulu. I believe the question was along the lines of - now that the A330s will be flying to Honolulu, why is Qantas not heavily promoting this to say yes we finally have a new aircraft on the run.

I believe there was an implication that it will not be flying there from December, so there was no point promoting it.

Who knows. Thats todays rumour.

-EBN did a SYD-CNS-SYD rotation yesterday..QF924/925.

kellykelpie, that's what I thought too, but apparently their is no iPads supplied in Y class, which doesn't really make sense as it spent a lot of time at the BNE maintenance facility both before and after repaint.

That brings an interesting point.

Do the 4 International A332's -EBG, H, I and L have a higher MTOW from when they used to do AKL-LAX-JFK rotations compared to their domestic siblings?

I remember seeing something on here about the J* ones having higher take off weights too.

The question remains why didn't the J* aircraft undergo the cabin interior BEFORE they went into service with Qantas? wouldn't it be common sense? Or am I thinking outside the box

Why no cabin refurb.

AirWest and Waren9,
I believe the answer to your question is in this article.
http://www.ausbt.com.au/qantas-on-tr...ess-class-seat

The key points being;
With less than 20 weeks until the first Business Suite takes flight, Morris says the job is about “continuing to refine and refine until we get perfect comfort and experience levels.”
The Business Suite is now entering the home stretch for certification by aviation safety authorities.
“There’s a lot of testing happening right now, we have to put dummies in the seats and make sure the seat will meet safety requirements.”
“We’re reeling in the regulatory stages right now,” add Morris, who may still spend a final night sleeping in the Business Suite before its December launch.

Well that is positive news. (Hopefully they mean QF 330s and not Onestar. )
