Qantas cancels peak season flight SYD/LAX !!!

QF 11 (a380) has been cancelled 31DEC, which seems very strange as period 26DEC-5JAN usually has aircraft go out @ or very close to 100% load factor.

What's going on at QF ?

Are forward bookings that bad ?

Guess they can't afford to dump seats, would rather cancel whole flight.

Is this the start of the end of QF INT ?

Where will all the QF Int pilots/flight attendants go ?

JQ at 1/2 the salary ? Don't think so.

XPT, yourself and several other lurking false prophets (insert names of the usual suspects), have been repeatedly salivating and drooling over predictions of "the start of the end of QF INT" for some time now.

What precisely is your motivation for wishing unemployment upon thousands, with the commensurate misery for those concerned and their families?

You have tried to incite a response on this before. What kind of idiot are you, exactly?

OMG, I've just rung Centrelink, it was a wonderful career while it lasted.

Oh, hold on. There's actually a lot of passengers that don't want to travel on days such as New Years Eve & Christmas Day.

Contrary to marketing, that is all about the journey. On days such as these, it's more about when you'll get to your destination.

Even my new friends at Centrelink know there's still a lot of Qantas Capacity between Australia & the USA on New Years Eve.

QF107 SYD-LAX
QF93 MEL-LAX
QF15 BNE-LAX
QF3/AA162 SYD-HNL-LAX

XPT, should the QF107 suddenly become oversold. You may want to travel SYD-LAX via BNE, MEL or HNL there's still plenty of seats.

so 5 1/2 months out QF starts cancelling flights on SYD/LAX.

So it's 31 Dec ?

FYI
Many people want to fly 2JAN, cos they all think they are somehow going to have a big New Years Eve (even though with kids, it's near impossible to get a babysitter that night).

So 2JAN fills up, then the realists realise that they are not going out NYE at all & then 1JAN & 31DEC fill up.

Oops, hold on 31DEC is not filling up, so QF cancels it.

When you can do a combo fare QF nonstop SYD/LAX late DEC, coming home midlate JAN direct on FJ on new A332's LAX/SYD from around $1540 PER ADULT inc all taxes & charges & QF can't sell that, then something is seriously wrong with forward bookings.

SYD pax just love going via BNE, MEL or worse HNL then onto AA.

SYD pax think the world revolves around them & only want to fly nonstop or direct.

Flights on Christmas, New Years etc are never full. In fact most that I've worked we have departed with less than 50% load factors. It always pisses me off when I see the load, knowing the flight is making a loss and you're away from your family.

That's aviation I suppose.

QF has cancelled QF 11 SYDLAX 25DEC & QF93 MELLAX 25DEC.

Can probably understand cancelling one of the two flights SYDLAX, but none MELLAX 25DEC now.

Plenty of religions don't celebrate Christmas & many people would fly 25DEC if they could not get 24 or 26DEC.

Seems excessive the number of flights QF are cancelling this far out.

My guess, and it's only that, is that you'll see that 380 aircraft doing a NYE charter down to the Antarctic and the QF11 flown by a -400 for a day. It's happened before. 380s are being pulled off a number of MEL-LAX services with additional services operated by 747 to facilitate DFW flights over Christmas/ New Year.

QF are actually operating additional MEL-LAX services over December and January. Christmas Day and New Year's Eve capacity slightly reduced as traditionally days of very weak demand.

Nothing to see here.

Geez. When I was in the Territory, the silly/troppo season didn't start until November-ish in Darwin?

I think XPTs a travel agent or something. Every time a scheduled flight is cancelled, his tinfoil hat starts spinning. As griffin mentioned, how many of these conspiracy threads does he need?
