300 Qantas pilots to get the chop ???
Banjo, at the risk of side tracking an already side tracked thread, VIPA were formed by people who felt that they knew better.
They trash talked the 2007 VB EBA, calling it a disgrace and reckoned that it made the people working under it the laughing stock of the industry, but later said it was an excellent agreement.
They submitted a log of claims for the next EBA that was at best fanciful and at worst grossly out of step with reality.
Having read their log of claims and the EBA that came out of the negotiations I suspect their input was not all that effective.
But they do have a vocal and loyal following.
This doesn't mean that the AFAP is the be all and end all, but wonder how things would have gone if there was a united single voice speaking on behalf of the VB pilots not two distinct groups pulling in completely different directions.

This is a great result. To have the Chief Pilot state that it likely that no CR will be required is an indication that it's not necessary to think doom and gloom all the time. This will give some hope for the junior pilots and there is a big thankyou to the pilots who voluntarily resigned (MOU) this month as it certainly helped as well as the VR's. Now if a few A380 retirements are thrown in over the next 2 years the numbers might end up being right. Good one.

If so I wouldn't be popping the Champers just yet. Has anybody else noticed a trend over, I don't know, maybe the last ten years?
Do you really believe this is rock-bottom at QF?

Yes. The CP's message specifically mentioned the current flying plan.
6 767 Captains took the offer, not 12 as previously mentioned.
Buggered if I can work out why they're happy to tell us now but it was all a massive secret a couple of weeks back.
We're losing a few really top blokes too and that's just a few that I know of.

And there we are...... one of the aforementioned 'top blokes' whom I've missed since becoming a captain and will miss even more when I no longer have the chance to run into him around the traps.
I hope that the generous actions of 'the few' hasn't simply emboldened Elaine and her cohorts to increase the rate of their destruction on the ever decreasing operation that is left.
Sounds positive for you blokes. Hopefully now you can disregard the Turkish Airlines Pilot advertisements in every second bus shelter in 'the Shire'. Talk about bad taste, next time it might be shopper-dockets.

Positive right up until August when they announce the largest annual loss in the Company's history.
Considering their form when it comes to less than brilliant decisions but an obvious desire to be seen to
be making decisions (managing ?) I reckon the future of the 747 is tenuous at best and will not be surprised
if the August announcement includes an accelerated a/c retirement due blah blah blah, watch this space.

This is not even close to rock-bottom. Just because CRs may not be immediately required is no reason to think things have turned around. And what exactly will we do with 80+ A330 S/Os ? We are all desperate for some good news but I'm afraid there is just more of the same coming for us. If anyone can provide some evidence to the contrary (aircraft orders, new routes, innovation) then I'll happily stand corrected.

Look at the Macquarie Bank presentation and you will see an additional 1800 FTE's to go next FY and another 1000 the following year. Where are they going to come from? Ask Dick.
This is a long way from over.

The 80 A330 S/Os was always an artificial number. It was never going to be the reality. It was simply that a 'redeployment' position' had to be advertised and they advertised it on the A330.

HOFO has just blogged about the surplus, stating that after the VR and RIN and the 50% of MOU and LWOP pilots not returning, there should be no surplus at all and that nobody will be retrenched.
