2.5 million shares now worth approximately $8 Million owing to an oil glut and an OPEC pissing contest. Oh, and finally, after almost six years, him beginning to reverse some of his idiotic ideas.

I am going to look for a company that I can take to the brink of ruin, cry "not fair!" To all who will listen, blame everyone but myself, then resort to reason and time-tested methods to avert disaster at the 11th hour. And then con everyone else to take a pay freeze which I and my henchmen will pocket.

Oh! Mustn't forget to co-opt journalists, troll social media and run three shifts of turd-polishers to keep the image burnished !

Money for jam, this executive caper.

...beginning to means the merest glimmer of a sign that maybe they realise that Jetstar is not the answer. The recently announced Haneda/ Narita daily double is an example, as are the A330 cabin refurb.

To counter that, the latest money thrown onto the JQ Japan bonfire is another example of the same old-same old. Maybe I am being too optimistic. Lord knows I am tired of constant doom & gloom.

"to counter that, the latest money thrown onto the JQ Japan bonfire is another example of the same old-same old. Maybe I am being too optimistic."

AJ will also be vindicated on JQ Japan. We should get the opportunity to celebrate that vindication in this topic if it keeps going for long enough.

The only risk to AJ was if he was prematurely axed before the result of his tough decision could flow through. He has not been axed and the results are now starting to flow through. So he gets to do the victory dance. Sorry it may not be what you wanted but thats the way it has panned out.

I didnt want Germany to win the World Cup but they did and I cant change that. Just have to move on.

Camelsquadron! How nice to hear from you so soon, with yet more Joyce pandering. One doesn't encounter too many catamites these days.

If JQ Japan ever returns all of the money yet sunk into it I will kiss Joyce's arse at high noon on High St*

Atlas-- pretty much a sackable offence if any other employee did that same thing. Included excepts about fair fax pretty much being the devil, and labors fair work Australia being evil and needing defeating.

Will give huge ammunition to EBA negotiators if and when they go to FWA- one glimpse at this blunder will show them who is the party "negotiating in good faith"..

Well that's interesting.

This thread is going to continue for decades!

Or perhaps it will be a never ending story?? These have lots of fanciful tales, mystical events, sorcery, witchery, evil and goodness, monsters, fairies, ogres and white knights.

Just to be clear, its stretching the bounds of credibility to even try to imagine the leprechaun in a suit of amour and mounted on a white horse.Even fairytales have to have at least a modicum of believability.

Beat me to it spelling_nazi!

Seconded, this must see the light of day. It would be a shame if AJ was able to bury yet another monumental fvck up.

Looks down,

I predict this thread will continue for decades after Joyce is gone, it will be like a "Where's Wally?" thread, with all the latest goss on the notorious guy. I just pray to god there will never be a "Jayne Hrdlicka is not happy......." Thread in the future...

AJ seems very happy these days........

"The number of individual flights to and from Europe sold by Qantas Airways has tripled under its alliance with *Emirates compared with its previous partnership with British Airways, says Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce.
The flights include those on Qantas aircraft to and from London and *Emirates flights to and from a long list of European destinations. Mr Joyce said Qantas was now selling about 1.2 million flights to and from Europe a year, up from 400,000 under the British *Airways alliance.
“We are promoting and selling *destinations from Europe into *Australia that we haven’t been party to in a long time,” he told the Australian Tourism Export Council Meeting Place 2014 conference on Wednesday.
“It is a massive growth. This alliance is generating real value of people *travelling on Qantas and to and from Europe on our code. We think it can build even further from where it has been in the last year.”

The benefit for Qantas of the alliance is not as bright as Camel Butt suggests. The question on everyone's lips is "how much does Qantas benefit from an EK passenger on their metal?" This question has been asked and Joyce has been very evasive. This is a very one-sided partnership. Beware the "SPIN". Where is the Tourism Export Council when it counts, promoting Australia and an Australian Airline?

They want an airline without the costs because they cant give a flying f^%$& about aircraft - or the long term viability of the airline itself.

At the moment things are great because people are still buying QF tickets - they haven't yet worked out they should just be buying EK.

I actually trust EK's words on this. They are ecstatic in any mention of the 'Qf deal' and how well it worked out for them. There is such a thing as a win/win deal, I just cannot see Elaine having equalled Clark negotiating (because AJ is a desperate fool) and I also struggle to believe anything that comes out of AJ's mouth. Or, if anything is left unsaid by him there will be a VERY good reason. Further, he doesn't know one end of an aircraft from the other and in the past has been magnificently outplayed by anyone he has done a deal with in the airline world.

The EK deal is a disaster for QF long term. No ifs or buts about it.

Tourists from Singapore to Perth up 30% this year. But can they fly between Perth and Singapore on QF??.
Another excellent idea.

A quote today from Qantas Board member Todd Sampson

When he was approached to join Qantas last year, the airline was at the lowest ebb in its history. There were calls for CEO Alan Joyce's head. Yet Sampson's acceptance of the invitation was instant, despite the company being in crisis.

History now shows that his timing was perfect as the airline--helped by lower fuel prices--has emerged from the storm.

"Its core was not in crisis. There is a big difference between the crisis created in media and reality" Sampson says.
The Weekend Australian, page 28 May 23~24 2015

Who created the media crisis? Who fed it all the way with multiple statements about a terminal decline, including in front of Parliamentary committees & submissions to the ACCC?

Did he just accuse his CEO of lying?

Sampson also said that the company struggled to get the "I still call Australia home" sentiment back.
That's WHY Sampson was employed. Not for anything else, and they will continue to tolerate his "t shirt dress in the board room.
Of course he has to produce something, but in the meantime, they can't be happy at his little "expose" on the board, even though it put Clifford and Joyce in a good light.
BUT, it confirms what everyone else knew what was happening. The board just denied it for their own ends and the media fed the misinformation to the public.
Sampson needs to understand that staff engagement should be near the top of his "to do" list.

Alan Joyce will be happy come 2016/17 when his 7900000 shares mature at 89 cents. An artificial care price can only last so long.....
