Romulus.

It's like the baggage handlers at Sydney International.

Five years ago, every other airline was giving Qantas a leg up.

QF was earning coin from turning around every other carriers aircraft. In between loading customer airlines they would load & unload QF aircraft. In effect the cost of employing Qantas staff was heavily subsidised.

Roll forward to present day. QF staff only turn around Air Canada, JAL, China Air Air Calin, Air NG & LAN Chile. It's got to the point where employing full time staff is not viable as they are sitting idle between jobs no longer being subsidised by contract work.

Five years ago the company was making money. Now they aren't. I'd say the current strategy isn't working.

It's Teresa as stated back in post 498

#498 (permalink) Fella's gidday, I have come out of retirement temporarily from being the old Teresa Green, as I am somewhat annoyed at the problems of QF and the incompetent management and board. I will not stay long. Three names worry me. Dixon, Singleton and Carnagie. They are hanging around like a dead dingo, and the smell does not go away. Dixon started the rot, in my eyes anyway, and I would not be surprised to see him at the carcase for a final chew. Along with his mates. Your thoughts?
one big happy family again...

Sadly my Qantas youtube channel has been cancelled by Qantas management again, (no sense of humour ) because I posted the 2013 AGM for the staff out of the country giving them the opportunity to see it when they got back, that video only had a couple of hundred hits so what are they hiding? ... I couldn't be bothered fighting them as you would think an AGM podcast was public domain for a large public company like Qantas and I am a shareholder..

Trust 2014 see's Qantas happy & growing again, you all deserve that,

Wishing you all wonderful Christmas & a Happy New Year, and a special thought to all who are away from the family working over the holiday period "keeping the show on the road" as usual..

Megle, old pilots are like fish, after a couple of days, they are on the nose. It time for the young bucks to take over, none of this Good ol Days stuff, they were good for me, but you young blokes and girls have far more to contend with. Teresa Green could not get back on line, under that name. I hope its because I got up the nose of someone of importance, but it was probably nothing more than a goblin in the system. Both TG and ID were the call signs on two Lancaster bombers during WW2, and I had the honour of flying with men from both those ships, after they joined TAA. No Megle, I simply have the ****es about QF, none of us ever thought the "boss Cocky" airline would get into trouble, sadly we were wrong.

Hong Kong's Apple Daily reported today (it's in Chinese only) that HK Airport's CEO said that Hong Kong Airport is not suitable for the development of LCCs.

A nice Christmas present for Joyce!

Thank goodness he is leaving. I was once a supporter and perhaps I could even have been described as a fan of Cosgrove. He lost my good will and support however after I read the article where he described with glowing admiration, the leadership Joyce had showed by shutting down the airline. Lost me forever after that. Somehow he has found himself too far into the trough along with the rest of them. Could not see the forest for the trees or as an alternative view, was allowed to be played as a puppet by the QF PR team. Very poor judgment there Peter.

Found this. Could not find paper article I refered to.

http://www.pprune.org/australia-new-...-cosgrove.html

Found statements by Cosgrove here;
No Cookies | Herald Sun

"Alan Joyce came from a working-class background and dragged himself up through a career. He's a very clever, very compassionate and very talented man who is doing a great job as the CEO."
Cosgrove has loved watching Joyce outflank the enemy recently, shepherding passengers into hotel rooms or on to alternative airlines.
"It was more impressive than anything I've seen in the military," Cosgrove said. "Given that we hadn't made a decision until the Saturday, anything that happened after that was going to be pretty impressive."

Qantas are failing to hold their 65% market share. Did a bit of googling and some old Qantas presentations have this measured on ASKs. Anyone could hold 65% market share of ASKs but wouldn't the real measure be in RPKs?

RPKs of course are measuring how many people are travelling on the Qantas Group aircraft as opposed to how many sold and unsold seats there are. On my account Qantas are slipping behind each month when the real measurement is used.

That takes me to the proposed new GG. He can cheer his little smug hero for grounding the Qantas fleet as much as he likes but it appears the fallout from that episode and other poor decisions are crippling the airline. Let's hope as GG he doesn't call his mate for advice and shut down the country.

Are there actually an Profits at all?

Jetstar has 4 offshore entities Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and the yet to fly Hong Kong
Has anybody ever wondered who is paying for these loss making entities all the time.
My guess is that Qantas International are bankrolling the whole thing (Jetstar) and at international's peril as there is a check valve in the system (money only flows out only)
Domestic is at war with Virgin and cannot win that fight and sacking all the Qantas Staff will not fix that.
Qantas forgot that staff earn money for the business as well as being paid to do their job.
Virgin know all the Qantas Inner Secrets so cannot win the war.
Qantas believe cutting staff and running B737 aircraft domestically is the way to cut costs
I believe Qantas Management and the board were told when they wanted to start Jetstar when BA were still on the Qantas Board that if you start a low cost carrier within your business one other part of your business will fail and ho and behold international is failing because it is being raped.
Also services run by international are retimed to make them unsustainable and subsequently given to Jetstar to operate who then retimes the flights back to peak times and suddenly it is now a viable route!!! The blind are not blind.
Who has paid for all the Jetstar costing including parking, pax handling fuel, landing fees, navigation fess etc my guess is Qantas and at that international. Was it ever paid back no!!!
Finally the Qantas Group needs to have a new face at the helm and get rid of the existing one as he thinks Qantas is a cheap low cost carrier, not to mention some parasites on the board who give no guidance only support for bad management.

Here is the link

??????????????? | ???? | ?? | 20131225

Using Google Translate:

When Hong Kong airport flight movements amounted to 370,000 vehicles this year, another record high, an average of 65 mmovements per hour, the Civil Aviation Department is expected two or three years, it will reach saturation to 68 movements per hour radio interview this morning, Mr Norman Lo, Director of said that the existing runway about to saturation, there is not much space for the use of low-cost airline, has even declared that our airport is not suitable for low-cost aviation development.

Mr Lo said, the Civil Aviation Department is preparing for a new air traffic control system, operation speed 100 times faster than the present, and provide weather, terrain and other information to the controller, to improve flight safety, but he stressed the need for long-term construction of a third airport runway.
There's a big FAIL.

At major airports, low cost carriers are like cockroaches; they are always under your feet and contribute little. I can tell you first hand that Hong Kong does not need yet more low cost traffic. HKG people want widebodies carrying business passengers, not A320s full of cheapskates, bogans and Chinese mainlanders.

The delays at HKIA are horrendous enough, now even in good weather.

Someone better tell CX then, they have added a significant amount of 320's to KA and a net gain of 1-2 330's in the last 2 years. CX seem to think that the 320/321 works well in their regional business model, expanding new markets and increasing frequency.

And interestingly, all the old haunts of the asian gweilo are now being overrun by Chinese mainlanders with money to spend..... so I think CX want mainlanders in the back of their 320's.
