Well why not run with it till it expired, and apply for a continuation?
There is no indication that QF are in that position though a substantial loss may trigger some debt covenants though it is unlikely a bank/creditor would follow through. QF still has access to cash via undrawn facilities as well as fully owned aircraft that could be sold and leased back.

Elaine flew to China several weeks ago in VH-FMG.
Apparently he does not eat or drink anything handled by a crew member when he flies QF, so the exec jet is his safest option. Plus, given his salary he no doubt thinks himself in the private jet snack bracket.

I wonder if Twiggy is generous enough to have shouted him the trip? It's not impossible they share some 'Union busting' beliefs...
When someone writes the book on the collapse of Qantas I hope they read these threads. It's a Shakespearian tragedy of Grecian proportions with possibly even more liberal dollops of reckless stupidity than 'normal' for such tomes.
I hope he is living with a sense of panic and impending doom. He is certainly displaying the symptoms of panic like vacillation, knee jerk decisions and seemingly decisions made on ideological beliefs rather than logic.
The drunken sailor appears to be getting even drunker and doubling up faster to make good. And I dont mean FMG either - in his defence he's losing so much so fast that would barely register.
Anyone who supports such an inveterate liar, fool and near criminal incompetent deserves nothing less than total contempt.

Standard practice in the world of aviation CEOs. Each can travel on each others flights for free. Problem is it seems Alan travels on other carriers more than his own because that would mean facing his staff.
Why doesn't he take his own food tester/taster with him? After all Stalin, Mao and Hitler had them. (oops....I made a Hitler reference). Perhaps even his own personal FA to supervise the onboard food delivery?

May traffic figures out. Dreadful. Only good point QF international load factor up 1.6% year on year. The worst Jetstar domestic down 3.2% and jetstar international down 4.6%. Standby for August 28 and the full year results. Il go around $1.5 billion. Very ugly I think.
Conversation with first class travellers and associated staff indicate that QF cheeseparing of costs in first is not unnoticed.

Blueskymine, off topic, but let me tell you how "to put that another way" started....
Over the years, I have had to deal with perhaps more than my fair share of morons in business and private life. I have found from bitter and occasionally life threatening experience that trusting that people understand what you have communicated without confirmation is very dangerous. That experience was hard earned in the Army, in business, on the roads, on the water, flying and maintaining such things as electrical appliances,
I have therefore developed the habit of trying to confirm that people actually understand the information I try to impart. In that I am guided by the neurolinguistic axiom that if communication fails it is the fault of the person trying to communicate, not the intended recipient.
Now I know its not necessary with the good and intelligent folk of Pprune, but it is a habit that's hard to break. It also occasionally results in "why are you telling me that again? I heard you the first time!!" exchanges with girlfriends.
My late partner had to deal with Chinese students who said "yes" to anything she told them. She developed her own response: "prove to me you know what I just told you". I often wonder if there would be less damaged C172's (bent firewalls) around if an instructor ordered their Chinese student to: "prove to me you know what will happen if you try to land at 75 knots."
To put that another way, I am deliberately trying to add some redundancy in my communication to increase the chances it is understood.

If AJ does eat onboard QF flights I assume he always goes for the steak and avoids the soup. There are much fewer acts of defilement available with a steak.
Unfortunately you do come across the occasional pitbull check in staff member, and arrogant cabin staff or pax assistance team member all too often. Sometimes I cringe when I see the way our customer's are treated by them.
This sort of behavior is truly damaging to those staff who are still trying to maintain the highest level of standards, regardless of what we may think of those travelling or how they treat us. ANY suggestion of food tampering is both outrageous and downright disgusting.
