Insiginificant.

Sorry....Insignificant.

And where was AJ in the Group photo with Tony Abbott and other Australian business leaders the other day?
By market capitalisation, Qantas is the 87th largest company listed on the ASX. It is now only about 2% of the Market Cap of the Commonwealth Bank and about half the market cap of Flight Centre. Even Auckland Airport is significantly larger. Not important enough to invite the CEO to a group photo.

In terms of staff numbers though, Qantas is about 20% the size of the Commonwealth Public Service. Is that a positive or a negative?

Where's Virgin Australia? Somewhere well below the Top 100 list.

Qantas Domestic chief executive Lyell Strambi said despite the financial pressures on the airline the operational performance had never been stronger.
“Qantas' punctuality record is one of the leading reasons Qantas customers continue to fly with us,” he said. “Our punctuality in addition to our fleet of aircraft, superior network, frequencies, lounges and frequent flyer program, are why we continue to be the best for business and premium travellers.”

Seems Lyell, Alan and Simon are very good at disregarding everyday mum, dads and kids who travel in economy. After all, they are the majority!

It's easy to get your otp up when you get rid of most of your aeroplanes!

Back slaps and bonuses all 'round

Nah, that's not the answer. Domestic capacity is growing at twice the rate of our competitor, to be sure to be sure. Just change procedures so the engineers no longer have the opportunity to find show-stopping defects. Problem solved. "It flew in, it'll fly out again."

So they are replacing the 767s and 747s with what?

Oh the A330s! The ones configured for domestic ops (that can't hold a skybed due floor loading) that are medium/long haul aeroplanes. Gotcha. The ones that can't fit into domestic gates? The ones also rumoured to be getting sold off?

Hmmm

The A330 won't fit into a domestic gate? The VA ones must, what is different with QFs? ( not trying to be smart, asking a serious question)

Not 'all' domestic gates I think is the point.

Virgin have only 2 gates at each of MEL, SYD and PER that are A330 compatible (I think) - when they're full you've got to use the stairs!

http://airservicesaustralia.com/AIP/...SYAP03-138.pdf

and you'll see that there are only 4 gates at QF DOM SYD able to do A330 - 5 less than can do 767s.

330 gates

I think there are only three 330 gates available in SYD unless you are counting 7B, the use of which screws up adjacent bays.

Perth has three, Melbourne ditto, and I think Brisbane has two.

Since the 787 is also too wide for the existing gates they will need to do some terminal work for the future, or resign themselves to single aisle jets for much of the east coast flying.

Also, the 330 is more cumbersome to turn around...you need at least an hour, and most of the aircraft lack brake fans which means engineering support with fans. Its common to have three or four engineers attend a 330 station stop, contrary to the new plane reliability credo.

QANTAS has come under attack over a “tacky and disrespectful” marketing campaign in which wine specials were spruiked to “celebrate Anzac Day”.

A Qantas epiQure mailout invited recipients to “celebrate Anzac Day” with a discount on a bottle of Taittinger Brut.

The promotion has since been replaced with a special deal to “celebrate autumn”.

Backlash on Twitter saw the airline labelled “tacky” and “no longer Australian”.

“We apologise for any offence caused,” Qantas posted to those complaining.

“The epiQure campaign has been withdrawn.”

Follow-up tweets suggested the airline email an apology to all those who received the original mailout, and make a donation to Legacy.
Happy Anzac day you bunch of pricks

I don't think elain would of been aware of the ANZAC wine special.
More like the marketing dept that lives in the glass ivory tower of QCA who is out of touch with the real world.if Elain wants to save cash how about getting rid of half the social media dept and get back to flying metal to new destinations or old destinations that use to actually make money.
