Mr Joyce : I think we will have to take that on notice because I do not remember the statements

So Joyce is now saying that he can't remember details from THAT year.

WTF, you wake up and ground the Airline

and now have difficulty recalling that year ?

Curious, did a QF jet do a flyby at the Melbourne Grand Prix? Would be a waste of fuel/airframe time in light of the dire financial position the company is (or has been placed) in.

Qantas did a fly past, but in lite of bazza stub's worry about QFs financial position the aircraft was downgraded to a B737-800

QANTAS B737-800 VH-XZJ Melbourne Grand Prix Flypast.
March 16, 2014

QANTAS Boeing 737-838 VH-XZJ operated a Melbourne – Melbourne circuit as QF6620 this afternoon in order to perform a flypast of the Melbourne Grand Prix.

This is the aircraft Mendoowoorrji with the new aboriginal art livery.

Sen Edwards

I watched the youtube posts and was dismayed by the facile line of questioning from Senator Edwards. Fortunately, he does not represent the standard of all senators otherwise we are in deep trouble

According to Sen. Edwards fully automated robotic process assembly work by Asian car manufacturing companies is the same as aircraft maintenance defect trouble shooting repair overhaul and modification. Silly me, comforting to know he has such a strong grasp of the subject matter.

Senator XENOPHON: Mr Joyce, on 17 February 2011, in announcing half-yearly results, you said that Qantas improved yield by nine per cent, that it demonstrated a strong revenue recovery across both international and domestic businesses. Yet, on 22 June 2011, you said that Qantas international was forecast to generate a loss, before interest and tax, of approximately $200 million. Could you please explain what happened to the trading environment in 3½ months? What happened to Qantas international?

Mr Joyce : Sorry, Senator, could you give the dates again?

Senator XENOPHON: Sure. You made a statement on 17 February 2011 that Qantas improved yield by nine per cent. You also stated that it demonstrated a strong revenue recovery across both international and domestic businesses. Then, on 22 June 2011, you singled out the international component of Qantas for special attention, saying that Qantas international, in financial year 2011, was forecast to generate a loss, before interest and tax, of approximately $200 million. I am just trying to establish what occurred in that period from 17 February to 22 June 2011.

Mr Joyce : I think we will have to take that on notice because I do not remember the statements.
Perhaps he may find it easier to recall last August to October, when we went from doing so well that we could afford to buy back our own shares to being a financial mendicant so desperate we'd stick our hand out for $3billion to a conservative government whose catchcry is "the end of entitlement"

Thanks moa. So an expensive popularity stunt is ok, but QF are pressuring every one to carry less fuel, turn of APUs during turn arounds, pushing for shorter turn arounds and reducing CC numbers. Okey-dokey!!

I just don't think there is anyone left in Qantas that knows anything about running an airline!

When John Borghetti left, the remainder went with him!

SMH 19/3/14

Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce has accused unions of ''blatant fearmongering'' for their claims about errors on the airline's aircraft sent for heavy maintenance in Asia over the years.
Ummm not really AJ. For some weird reason (well numerous really) I just don't trust you to be in charge of anything - let alone something inherently dangerous that you expect me to take up to 30,000' as a matter of course.

I NEVER thought I would be able to even think that, let alone be provided with black and white proof that shenanigans extend beyond financial alchemy at Qantas.

The loyal staff at Qantas are not behind you. You and all your ilk are a gross cancer. Either you and all your complicit incompetents go or the airline is gone. Unfortunately you do not care, which is where we have issues.

Please go away before one of us dies.....

I just heard him on the radio saying something like the unions are using the safety card for industrial reasons.

Isn't that why he decided to ground the airline??

CLAIM: Qantas has been shifting costs within the airline to make Jetstar look better and make Qantas International look worse financially.
FACT: This is a baseless claim that has never been substantiated. Qantas’ financial accounts are independently audited by KPMG and lodged with the Australian Securities Exchange. We have a legal, regulatory and moral responsibility to report accurate accounts. The claim that we would deliberately distort financial results is wrong.
source: Qantas

Note the language, its very subtle, and its all about the language. This has been very carefully worded. This is not a direct denial that cost shifting occurs, rather, the claim is not based on any facts presented thus far by any party.

This answer, however, does not preclude the possibility that cost shifting is occurring. It is simply saying that no evidence has been produced to support that claim. Of course, by not releasing vital piece of information (complete accounts) on the basis of "commercial in confidence" it is impossible to obtain the information to prove a case. They are well aware that it is impossible to test the claims. However, this statement is telling in that they have not issued a direct denial.

They could issue a statement that there is no revenue of cost shifting between entities, however they have chosen not to. Why not?

The current standard (AASB 114 Segment Reporting) allow revenues and costs to be allocated between companies within a group structure, as noted in the accounts of each segment.

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the accounts meet the Australian Standards and any audit would find this. However, without offering the complete accounts, it is impossible to validate or falsify the claims of legal cost shifting between entities within the group.

Until there is an express denial that there is no allocation of cost & revenues between entities this remains an unanswered question.
