The 250 million is only the half year loss. There is worse to come.
Shortly you will also hear of how another "brilliant idea", one that has consumed the working lives of Qantas operational staff for many, many months, has been shelved.
The loss for Jetstar and the deferral of 3 787's points to some home truths about the Jetstar International and the Asian operations. They are millstones around mainlines neck.

Oh God, the expert is currently on 2GB blaming it on the unions and saying what a great job Alan is doing. oh and you pilots are the worst of the lot!
1A Sounds like a load of accountancy BS. Make the numbers show what you want them to. Not confusing anything, just don't buy it.
The 'one aircraft' reference was one of irony to Evans' own statement along the lines that Jetstar 'investment' was less than the cost of an A380.

So Emirates was not the golden egg it was meant to be?
As for suggestions of strikes, don't do please - while I agree in principle, you will just hurt the passengers. We need as many passengers right now - get them offside and the airline will die.
That town hall this afternoon was a waste of time.

Undoubtedly the leprechaun has gotten rid of the non agreeable people on the inside and bought out most of those with influence on the outside.
So how do you get rid of the turd other than going out of business?
I'm seeing parallels with Sol Trujello during his time at Telstra - their mission is themselves.

Its fairly obvious what will happen now. Abbott, who will not be panicked, or wedged, will probably go for the letting foreign investment, knowing full well that if he goes for the debt backing, every business from Micks workshop, to GMH will want a handout. And screams coming from Commerce, with the Oppositions backing. The Senate of course will immediately cancel foreign investment out, even if Labor realises Abbott is going to wedge them, and no doubt they already have, but then they have The Greens, and no way will they allow Foreign Investment. (They should never have married them) Then of course, Abbott will say, due to the Senate blocking, I have no choice but to back QF's debt, to keep the airline in the air, and remain as the National Carrier, for the sake of the security of the nation, blah blah, blocking commerce, (What can they say) and wedging Labor and The Greens, and as they plan to wedge him. Meanwhile the innocent, used as political prawns, can only hope, that they have a job next week. And to Joyce, and the Board who are the true cause of all the problems, hopefully Abbott makes it plain to them and the shareholders (who defy all reason, that they have accepted the excuses), manage it properly, and if you cannot, you're gone, and no more money.
Pressure builds,
ABC headline, "Joyce staying on despite massive losses.."
Email today from the head of Qantas Executive Club, in response to a flood of enquiries, saying points will not be affected.
What does it say about airline management if the only thing that they can make a profit on is the reward scheme.. maybe they are in the wrong industry?

Am I right in assuming that no one actually knows who are loosing their jobs. Joyce just got up and said 5000jobs are going, and that's it? That's just great for morale, to have a great unknown hanging over your head.
There is no plan, this guy really has no idea.

Share price drops by 4% when AJ confirms he is staying put
Just listened to ABC PM with Mark Colvin. Reporter Peter Ryan notes that the share price dipped by 4% following further confirmation from AJ that he is staying put as CEO!!!
Who is playing with the market?
Surely the fund managers aren't reacting (as per the usual response) as they've stood firm despite continued doom and gloom.
Is there another consortium in the wings?

Months of rumour, speculation, stress, worry, illness and so-forth ensue…
Then comes the announcement, devoid of specifics, leading to a continuation and an elevation of the stress and worry… and an increase in the fear faced by employees.
A Complete bastard act. How hard is it to Just be specific, make the cuts, be done with it.

In the same way that these people are unable to manage this business properly, they cannot even deliver the bad news to staff properly.
Joyce spoke about concerns for staff, but proper practices include all information up front, as they have had the time to prepare it,otherwise this information will be construed as fragmented and ill conceived (as it should be).

I note the grim reaper AJ mentions as do all the rags that there is 5000 jobs to go, but stated as 5000 equivalent to full time jobs..............that could be taken as 6000 jobs for Eg that consist of part time employees etc that would make up 5000 full time jobs.
As much as I hate to say it the unions could with a LOT of backing/support bring this Co to it's knees as QF is very venerable right now, then again how do you fall a Co that's already about as low as it can go anyway?

Can't you guys just refuse to have the spineless ass-clown onboard??
or maybe hit turbulence just as his coffee is being poured??
On another note.......Ukraine can topple a President.....but we're stuck with a clueless CEO........funny old life isn't it....

He can't even get a name right? The man really is past his use by date.
Ok in the issue of fairness, just watched 7.30 on the net, and he was talking to Sarah, so he did get her name correct. Be careful people, make sure we get our facts correct when posting.
I retract my initial comment, as he did get her name right. Although during the interview he did not really inspire confidence.
