I just saw an advertising banner for QF pop up on prunes website.

I did hear a rumour last week that QF have realised they've been screwed with the EK code share tie up.

Supposedly, the tie up requires customers booking thru the QF website to be directed towards EK metal flying to Europe.

QF have realised, booking punters on EK metal has stuffed their European Mainline services.

Supposedly, QF are now pushing passenger bookings thru local travel agents as there is no preference to book on EK for ticket sales thru agents.

Expect to see a possible increase in advertising to get bookings thru agents.

That is great news. Where in Europe does QF fly to? What happens to people trying to leave from anywhere other than SYD or MEL?
I call BS on that one.

In JQ, idle reverse is not a policy it is a preference. That way when you run off the end of the runway at Ballina you can't use "I was following policy" as a defense.

Hey Don, this is a rumour network.

What I hear is the 20th July network changes to London via Dubai required a sweetener.

Supposedly, QF needed to improve its network timing into London.

They approached their old mates at BA to swap slots.

The reception was icy.

QF are tied into online sales due the EK tie up. So the network changes were permitted when Armadeus was updated to sell the European network ex LHR on BA.

What was old, becomes new again regarding European network ex LHR.

I'm going QF business class to Darwin in a while to do some fishing. Interesting that there do not appear to be many direct flights ex Melbourne. I'm going via Adelaide - anything to avoid Sydeny (sic).

Not many flights from MEL-DRW....what about the QF838 daily service? Or do you mean there aren't many seats free.

This financial year will be the loss making one. AJ and co want it is big as possible so they can call for wage freezes and changes to the sale act. Next year however is planned to be a remarkable turnaround by the fantastic leadership team to make them look like heroes. I think the advertising campaign will kick on in earnest.

Sec: That'll be nice if it happens. I like having the occasional loss making year with my business, but then I only answer to myself on those decisions. It doesn't affect my employees, customers or suppliers. Can't imagine having shareholders and deliberately piling up losses into one year.

You also need a network with the right aircraft and of course passengers to make a profit. Just look at Air NZ - not bad for an 'end of line carrier' operating within a nation of what? approx 5 million people.

Cannot wait to see the increase in pax fuel levy that AJ will impose due to his inefficient aircraft and the spike in oil prices due to current Iraq and the Middle East implosion - oh yes, QF now hubs through the Middle East....

DCH63,

Yes while Air NZ is going well now, lets not forget that not so long ago they were in as big or bigger hole than Qantas, required a Government bailout, and the Airline used the crisis to gain significant wage concessions from the staff!!

That said under Fyfe, they made some smart moves equipment and route wise from then on!

Were as Qantas have made some really dumb moves...............like completley pulling out of any International flights ex Perth!
Network is vital, and i would have thought the A330 could have been replaced with a QF738, to at least maintain a Qantas presence internationally ex Perth?

would also be interesting to see if there was any correlation between NZ regulatory reform and the current success of Air NZ - i.e. was the industry unburdened/set free of regulatory red tape...just a thought

Jet*star Aus*tralia and New Zealand chief ex*ec*u*tive David Hall said some cus*tomers were de*lib*er*ately choos*ing to fly with Jet*star be*cause of the 787
Imagine what the passengers might choose (and spend) if they were with Qantas instead. Clowns.

Keg,

That's J* speak for talking up the JQ Brand, without providing any solid supporting information.

It'll be interesting to see if the end of year results include a partial of full sale of the "ammmazzziing" business.

Ralph Norris made most of the changes that laid the foundations for Air NZ to grow and prosper. Sure, Fyfe was ok, didn't do too much damage and some interesting innovations were launched during his tenure as well.

And while it is not the only reason for the great returns at the moment, lets not forget that they have no serious competition to North America (Hawaii aside) for the first time in living memory. It's a lot easier to run Air NZ than QF.

Keg,

Notice how the next Mascot "Town Hall meeting" includes BOTH AJ & Jayne Hrdlicka.

Rumours circulating that it's an opportunity to meet the new boss & she's being groomed for the Group CEO position.
