Latest rumour is that there is a behind the scenes push from shareholders to roll Joyce and put Peter Gregg in.

Then APA part 2 can commence. Balanced Equity, dixon and Co. (Who popped his head up to support the removal of the sales act, wonder why?) can then proceed to realise the asset value of the carrier and Qantas no longer exists.

The 330 will join the Jetstar widebody fleet.

Jetstar AU lose 1 to Qantas, then get one back.

Not all the 330's will go back to Qantas.

Jetstar will use them on East-West flights.

[As to "unrepresentative swill", it is a fair comment given the line of questioning taken by Sean Edwards, someone who was too lazy to have read the submission in full and asked questions that had already been asked and answered.]

I agree with you and refer back to my post:

[The Senator got 8.76% of the vote (0.61 of a quota) - he was therefore dragged across into the Senate on Party lines.]

This means that 91.24% of the voters of South Australia did NOT vote for him - pretty unrepresentative to me.

There are obviously quite a few who do not understand how voting for the Senate takes place. I guess ignorance is bliss, and allows the uninformed to spruik their nonsense.

Back to matters aviation. If a certain union official was really on top of his brief, and had all the facts at hand, why was he apparently ignorant of Virgin Australia having major maintenance performed in Singapore and Manila? Surely his members were aware and kept him up to date, especially as he has so much to say about Qantas' off-shore activities?

I believe it was a senate enquiry into Qantas not virgin. I'm sure he would have brought more stuff if he knew he was going to be asked about everybody else And qantas.

Aveng,

I realise the purpose of the enquirey but a certain union official kept banging on about VA having its maintenance checks limited to NZ and Portugal. If he makes a claim, it needs to be correct. He was found wanting - embarrassingly so.

The Bullwinkle,

No, I'm not AJ but I'd settle for just half of his annual salary etc.

I just thought you might have been as you seem to have the same level of preoccupation with Virgin as he does.

I wish my wife showed as much interest in one union official as Ken does.

The Bullwinkle,

I am not pre-occupied with Virgin. What I don't like to see is mis-perception, either intended or unintended. The ALAEA has been very critical of Qantas for having some of its heavy maintenance done off-shore. On the other hand, it's been quite uncritical of Virgin having all of its HM performed off-shore. In fact, it has understated the extent Virgin's off-shore maintenance. I'll give the Secretary the benefit of the doubt when he says he wasn't aware of some of it, but for someone in his position, that's a pretty lame (sorry, the pun was unintended) excuse. I like to see the facts correctly put.

Aeromedic,

WTF would I do that? Or, why would I want to?

Ken,

I'm pretty sure Steve said that mainrenace was done in NZ (for Virgin that is) because that was where they could get it done quickly as they started their business. He also said they were bringing it back 'on shore' and starting an aprentice scheme.

Does that apply to BGA as well? As he appears to never be able to answer directly or state facts.

Actually, we know less about the future of Qantas now than we did 6 months ago. But my guess is if the 49% is abolished in the QSA then domestic will be sold off to foreign lands and international will be shut down and the assets sold off. Consider AJs continues rhetoric over the last few years in regard to international. Things like "international is in terminal decline" and " we will not invest in international until it provides positive returns on its capital". These all indicate that they just are happy to watch international wither away, and with the 49% removed even more interest will be lost as it will be about flogging off internationals aircraft, putting the cash in the domestic coffers and making domestic more attractive for potential purchasers.

Yes, it would be good if AJ answered his questions directly. At least his workforce may then be able to move on and plan for a future instead of us all living each day with chopping sword hanging over our heads.

The really honest answer we wanted from AJ when asked "what would it take for you to resign Mr Joyce?" the number 1 response should have been "at the present moment the board is seeking expressions of interest from suitable candidates to take my position, so as soon as the process is complete I will announce my resignation".

Now that would have been a factual answer we would have all enjoyed and music to your "supportive" employees ears.

hmmm I would think rolling around on the floor in fits of laughter would be more accurate. Qantas couldn't organise a chook raffle under current management. I would wait for the required approval from local govt. before I put too much of a spin on it, then wait to see where they can find some slots

.... 2 years later, the only change is 9 planes parked in France (copied from fragrant harbour post # 2)

TIMA9X,

Unbelievable that Joyce and co. cannot advise the senate of their plan to move forward if the QSA is repealed.
Knowing what you are able to do after that is critical, yet all Joyce can offer is "It's a hypothetical" . The senators have to wring information from him form the continuous mantra of "All we want is level playing field...." in most answers.

I'm just intrigued in the statements of having "spoken to the shareholders in the last few weeks" that he has their support. As far as any public airing of this information is concerned, I haven't seen any.

Ken,

Noted.
