Virgin pax numbers falling

Virgin Australia have just released their May operating statistics and I quote the following for domestic operations.

May 2012- 1,422,194
May 2013-1,349,527 (-5.1%)
This brings a load factor of 69.3% for the month.

To be fair, the others.
QF Domestic (exc Qlink)- 1,411,000 (+2.9%)
Jetstar- 834,000 (+0.6)
Tiger- 227,000. 85% LF.

Their product has improved greatly and is quite impressive transcontinental, but 70,000 a month and falling, surely this must be hitting the books quite hard. Its not just for the month either, this has been the trend for the last 7/8 months.

Interesting.

They quote that the decreases are due to the economic slowdown, yet all their competitors are recording increases in traffic?

VA's domestic fares have risen to that of or above QF on some routes. They have lost a lot of the lower end of the market.

May 2012- 1,422,194
May 2013 -1,349,527 (-5.1%)

Difference is 72,667 (or -5.1%)

...but 70,000 a month and falling
How do you get that figure?

Yield is what counts, and VA is being managed by some extremely experienced airline people.

It's probably because a lot of customers are returning back to qantas because they haven't had too much negative publicity in the news lately and customers have realised how good the frequent flyer program at qantas is (especially the deal with emirates)

Business Class Virgin

From my experience on recent flights

Qantas has Business Class

Virgin has Bogan Class

Virgin do not have a monopoly on Bogans, Qantas has just as many.

So when chosing who I fly with I now consider bogans ppm as about the same, flight times about the same, the way customers get treated by the company, not the same and the way staff are treated by the company, not the same.

Net result, VA get the $$ every time. The only exception is when there is a really good reason to go QF, even if they were cheaper.

QF would have to do something miraculous to win our company business back. And that was from a staunch loyal QF customer(s).

.......................good onya Jabba, take one for the team buddy, fly in one of our Co A/C & we'll luvs ya even more!

Bogans (as has been said blw here) are everywhere. The days of getting all dressed up & behaving in a proper manor has long since gone in flying, cheap fairs, over supply & the fact that the new generations of Airliners are sardine tins with wings all contribute to mass travel by people (boguns) who would never have dreamed of flying so often. Just take a look around the terminals, people sprawled out like lounge lizards everywhere with the words courtesy/respect the furtherest from their minds! The amount of young people we have to step over to get to the security gate says it all

We are a nation of bogans these days. They live in every suburb and fly on every airline - you can't get away from them. Some places have more than others, the QF and VA FF lounges at YBMK come to mind...
