The Latest Spin from QF IR.
Qantas Defence Services is making staff at the Richmond RAAF Base redundant (because of the government grounding the C130H). But Qantas being the great employer they are have offered redeployment to other parts of the business but the catch is you have to resign from your job and wait three months until you can be hired by Qantas , what a great deal that is.

QF have offered all the QAL Sydney international baggage handlers VR.
I believe 50 or so are taking it.
VR's not due to less work being available, as they continue to recruit casuals thru Qantas Ground Services.
I'm told the by product of QF actions are:
A. The QAL's are p!$$ed off
B. The QGS staff are P!$$ed off they load the same aircraft at the same time & shift as a QAL for less pay
C. QAL & QGS will call in sick if there rosters don't suit them. As they believe the company treats them like $h!t.
D. QGS staff join, complete Qantas training then resign & go to a better paying job at TOLL.

Talking to a ground services guy in AKL - AirNZ have done the same thing and because the casuals don't get holiday pay or staff travel and other benefits, will they bother turning up for work when the fish are biting or the barbie' has just been lit.....no way !!
Major problem belong Company.
Role on......

The phenomena is group wide.
JQ casual FA's being a perfect example.
When the suns shining on a weekend, there's better things to do than a four sector day.
Outsource mainline flying to new companies.
Then outsource the said labour within those companies to labour hire.
Management shall reap what they sow.

QCCA international cabin crew much the same.
I'm reliably informed 6 on average go sick on every trip with an A380 cancelled altogether a couple of weeks ago as the company couldn't crew it.

380's are departing daily short crewed. QF response is to increase the size of the AKL base in the next few months to cover this. Crew have to be paxed to and from AKL as there are no wide bodies flown over the pond. They can't get the qal crew on 747s etc to transfer because of the crap conditions. Motivation is low. This is a problem whether bun tossers, bag chuckers or whatever in the company. B scale wages contributes to management bonus, not productivity.

Did they go to a foreign Govt?
One that has perhaps assisted the ALP in its current "boat people" issue?
What price did we get?

JETHRO, as the old saying goes "the left doesn't talk to the right". As the world exists today we have management that are a bunch of idiot, no nothing academics who licked their way to the position they are in. You are seeing the result of what this does.

@Arnold E
I too have been unable to fathom "performance bonuses". I would have thought that doing the job you were employed to do, and correctly, or else, would be incentive enough to do your job.
But I guess when you call the shots, and you want the lemmings to do your dirty work for you, no matter the cost, you'll give them a bonus, and then reward yourself handsomely for getting others to do your work for you, and make it look like you've brought great change to the workplace.
Unfortunately, in this greedy society of ours, there are those that think and actually believe that they are worth every dollar of their $2million package or $500,00 package, or whatever they're paid, because they have reached their KPI's and all the other targets they "achieve".
The value of the worker is zero in management's eyes. They are a liability and burden that should be gotten rid of, and they're doing a fine job at that.
Surely if I employ a manager to do a job I offer him an amount of money and he accepts or he doesnt. I dont want him to do a poor job, I expect him, as with everybody else, to do the best job that is possible for him to do. That being the case, why would I pay him any more than what was agreed, since that is what I expected of him in the first place. I know my boss expects nothing but a 100% of my abilities when I do a job and wouldnt, and I dont expect, him to pay a bonus for doing that. The fact is, everybody is either able to do their job to an acceptable standard.........or their not.

why a bonus system for management exists at all
Also the c**p about getting massive payouts when resigning before end of their contract. If I break a contract with anyone, I have to pay.
Where did the H's go?
Did they go to a foreign Govt?

Nunc est bibendum
Air Force T W I T T E R feed suggested that the Indon's have put a request to our government for a number of the remainder. They mentioned the number of 6 in addition to the 4 we gifted them. Don't know what stage negotiations are at.

Management bonuses: There is very good research which indicates that paying a performance bonus results in WORSE performance, when that bonus relates to decisions and not extra work, as the person becomes focussed on the bonus and not the business:

Seems the announcement and photo op of a few monhts ago was somewhat premature...US State Dept is yet to approve gifting/sale of C-130Hs to Indons, and it is likely certain 'mods' will be required first.
Also, ~6 of the Hercs are currently unflyable and will need a DM before leaving RIC...who will perform this work?
Only the fate of one of the airframes (011 to RAAF Museum) has been decided so far, the rest are still in limbo.
