The A380 is old technology designed in the 90"s. Just wait till the 787 arrives, they will need no maintenance, (if they stop being grounded because of maintenance issues)

Qantas is sacking 204 engineers in Sydney (30% of the staff) next month.

No Superlame, these are NOT questions that CN has to answer because the. Ferrycostsdont come out of engineering a budget. Some other department wears the costs.

This is what is called sub optimization - every little prick of a manager is pursuing their own KPIs and bugger anyone else. nobody looks at the big picture and the total cost the results are predictable.

Not only is all that true, but those that are being convinced to move north to let some go this round will be in the firing line when BNE and MEL have their turn in the next 12 months. So you move, mostly at your own expense, and then lose your job in another state. Sounds like a bargain.

QANTAS ENGINEERING TRIBUTE WALL

To pay our deepest respects and thanks, to the men and women who have left Qantas Engineering through recent redundancies, I propose on behalf of the remaining Engineers, a tribute post of just names of those who have left us.

Shall they never be forgotten.

A single name and station per post will suffice. Preferably not your own.

Annulus, whilst I appreciate the sentiment, these blokes aren't dead... You can catch them for a beer anytime you like.. Their shout.. I understand how hollow it seems, for these blokes to be muscled out after so many years of service, sacrifices made, and significant family events missed due being on shift, but hopefully, the debarcle that has been these last few years at QANTAS Engineering will provide a little perspective as to what's really important for the blokes that remain here today.. No more missed kids birthday parties or postponed anniversary dinners.. No matter what level of self importance you place on your position, experience, or skill set, to this mob we're each just another payout figure with legs... Cheers, my shout shortly..

Very true. I heard Melbourne first then Brisbane. BNE Heavy has to be the safest place in the company at the moment, but for how long ?? 5 years??

Clearly they cant get the "right" people here, they will have to get 457 guys, and as a bonus, they can pay them less as well.

Be Careful what you say!

Just remember. There are people who are in situations out their control who need to do O/T. Not because they want to do it or because they have a nice new shiny 4 x 4 to pay for, because they have been put into a position out of their control and have bills to pay. Sick kid who needs spoecialist care, wife with cancer, legal wrangles like divorces, etc. No one that I know goes to work just to be there instead of doing their own thing.

I know guys who will loose everything they own if the bills don't get paid. Hassle them at your own peril!! I have seen it done and you are travelling a dangerous path!

I think you guys are brain dead using this forum and talking the way you are. QF management reads this and could/ will use it against you, as will the guy that cracks and drags an idiot with a big mouth up to HR for Harassment.

Thanks for reading and good luck to all in this disaster.

Too bad you can't link audio to that crap boardman, would be more convincing with a violin concerto to accompany it.
Like Elton Jon said, the boys up north are purely milking it for all it's worth, greedy roaches who care less if your missfortunate mates have a job or not.
Come to BDT, you will meet a whole world of people could give a $hit about family or leisure time when they could be doing bugger all on double time.

I'm yet to see any of the few who insist on continuing OT getting hassled Boardman, nor should they.

We are entitled to talk about OT and it's affect on redundancies here or in any other setting. It's not unprotected industrial action to suggest people are best spending their spare time with their families than working OT when they're worried about losing their jobs. Nothing illegal, you're jumping at shadows.

Cashing in on $OT is very short sighted in the current climate.

Good luck to all.

If your financial situation is so bad that you can't do without, I'd suggest you contact Employee Assist,
Now there is some good advice.

Jet-A1

Hassling has happened and I sincererly hope you have no hicups in your life. Mind you some of the people who have hassled pick a weak target. Like I said, some are in positions where they have to roll the dice & take what is right in front of them due to their situation. Some are just greedy too. All I am saying is some (a small few) have no choice but to protect their families right now & worry about the next Wolf at the door when it gets there. That's life.

The peolpe I am thinking of are doing exactly what they were doing OT wise before this all started.

Like I said, I hope for your sake you don't get put into that situation. It is the Devil or The Deep Blue Sea. Surely, you must understand that. If you don't well that is up to you.

To the greedy types that see an opertunity here now, well they will have to live with their decisions on their shoulders.

That's my say.
