Alliance to be bought out by Qantas

Rumour has it, Alliances trading halt is to do with finance for more jets.

They are the last standing RPT Jet and Turboprop outfit in Australia.

Surely they can't stand alone competing with these new alliances forming around them....

Maybe a windup here, but what about Airnorth?

Airnorth are already tied up with Qantas, so they don't need to buy them

5 Fokkers they are looking for. Qantas and Virgin keep on leasing them. I am surprise that QF don't snap up Alliance to go head to head with Virgin/Skywest. Would give old mate AJ a way out of the INTL game.

QANTAS could not afford Alliance. They paid peanuts and bought Network, you know what they say about paying peanuts....result one bent Fokker within months of the take over. Alliance being flying these aircraft for years with no incidents.

Must be doing something right apart from making plenty of dough.

I see the judge, jury and exocutioner has spoken, nice one ace.
I guess the ATSB can put this one to bed then.

I thought they were a charter mob, not RPT.

Anyone else see the irony of two posts on pprune on Alliance, one claiming they will be bought out by QF and the other claiming DJ will muscle in? And of course the more likely outcome is that they will stay exactly the way they are. Putting aside their growing and seemingly profitable FIFO flying, they quite happily prostitute themselves to BOTH major airlines, operating east coast RPT flying with surplus F100s...

This week JB and SD made it clear to the Virgin Pilots that the Wet Lease arrangement with Alliance will end in FEB as planned and they have no further plans to use Alliance.

Didn't some big American venture capital group invest heavily in them last year?

Blackstones or a group like them buy out them and Airwork across the Tasman, or became a major share holder?

Someone should update the Alliance wiki page too.

And when the five new 717s are out of the desert and sitting in Brisbane and Canberra with red tails taking up the current and forcast expansion QF wont have a need for Alliance anymore as well.

Rumour is there are more 717 airframes sitting in the desert and QF can't get their hands on them quick enough.

I cant see why they would buy out Alliance when they are expanding their 717 operation.

Perhaps a three way merge, Alliance, JetGo and Skytrans, with Turkey Slapper as HOFO? A mixture of new Embraers, old Fokkers and prehistoric Dash 8's, an Engineers dream come true!

I think you will find the only 717's that are in the desert are the ones passing through Alice and The Rock, there all flying for some one, hence as available as hens teeth at present.

Re 717 availability, aren't the former Airtran aircraft becoming available following the merger with Southwest? Thought I had read somewhere that Southwest had decided not to continue operations with the 717 as it conflicted with their business model of only using 737.

I was referring to which venture capitalist group bought a huge chuck of Alliance a year or so ago ?

All the AirTran 717's are going on lease to Delta.
