was there an exercise by the dog squad or customs or aviation security today? just saying....
Fair scenario, but they don't write Bomb on their training aids for just that reason.

Soft Drink Bomb a "fizzer"

From the article:
However a Victoria Police spokeswoman today said no offence had been detected ‘‘due to an initial misinterpretation of foreign lettering on the print of the can’’.

She said the word was printed on the can itself and not handwritten, as originally reported by police yesterday.

The spokeswoman could not say what language the word was written in, or what the brand of the drink was. However police have confirmed no explosives were found in the can or on the plane, and no threat was intended.

It seems to me there should be a balance between being security conscious and jumping at shadows.

"Alert but not alarmed" anyone?

This is security gone mad !!!! The terrorists have certainly done their task well, they have instilled fear in everyone the likes we have never seen before !
They (terrorists) don't have to do another damned thing all they have to do is watch us become frightened at our own shadows!
I guess the Capt had little choice but to return but I sure as hell wouldn't want to have been in his shoes, tough call!

Just the other day whilst going thru the metal detectors at the airport on the way to my 'office' I got targeted by the umbrella Nazi's & had to dig it out of the bottom of my fright bag so he could open it up & see that it was not really the weapon of choice after I said I'll keep it in plain view whilst in the cockpit by placing it beside the crash axe !!!!
The guy said he could be watched at any time from a Dotar's person so I guess he's just doing his job but man have we gone too far with all this??

with respect to the captain, and media useless as they usually are, the word "Bomb" was handwritten, they inspected it for any IED's, ovbiously not motion activated being on an a/c, so moved the can to an isolated part of the a/c being the forth right door, considering if the a/c exploded.
