Hate to rain on the parade.

Haven't CASA placed a stop on further skywest ATR expansion untill such time as their finance/training situation improves?

Realistically untill that happens, all this speculation, is just that!

43 inches, the Wollongong-Melbourne has been done in the past by B1900 & Dash8-100 a/c. Block time in the B1900 heading south was around 90mins and 75 mins for the return, in those days this was a convenient service.

Have have you experienced flying Newcastle-Melbourne in a dash(rip) in winter? Maybe that's considered as your 'long haul' in which the ATR would be a hell of a lot quicker than these older props!

The 1900D is capable of 280kts so is similar in speed to the ATR-72 which kicks along at 270kts. The Dash-100 and older 1900s are around 250kt, 20kts over this distance is around 10 minutes so not a great difference.

If the route was viable for a 70 seat aircraft i'm sure QLink would be operating it in the Q400 which cruises at 360kts and over that distance would match the ATR in cost. In fact even Rex would be there as the SAAB cruising at 270kts would be similar sector times to the ATR.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that wet lease has been going for a good 6 months already.

Mainly because there is a lengthy layover from the SYD arrival, until its next departure.

VAH shares today - just noticed 56 million shares moved around to QF's 200,000 odd. Interesting!

DPO has been a very strong airport for a number of years with QF being very happy, council has never owned was always the port corp. they were looking at selling it as it was not core business but the local consortium were only offering peanuts so the state Port Corp is now spending 5 million on the terminal in readiness for security and at the same time are doing a lot more already starting to look good.

DJ may well do OK in Mildura if they can increase frequency.

The regulars out of DPO are getting quite used to the Q400 which does around 2 thirds of the flights out of DPO appreciate the extra speed compared to the older Dashes

MEL NTL was a long haul for a old dash but the Q400 would handle it well, problem is you are competing against A320's and E190's.

Putting some Q400's (or ATR's but I don't rate the confort level) on some longer routes such as DPO SYD have a lot of potential

Not entirely sure about that. It's around 50:50 Dash8 300 vs Q400 to DPO, and the "commuter" flights (QLK 50/51 and 58/61) are almost all Dash-8 300's.

I agree with your Mildura comments; the main reason that DJ aren't getting good loads into and out of Mildura is that there is only one flight per day. DJ didn't want to overnight an a/c due engineering requirements. If they had, they'd have had much better loads, IMHO.

A total of 4. Two are ex EK, and two are factory fresh. I believe one more is in the pipeline.

Are these crewed by internals? Considering were majority Boeing operated I wouldn't have thought there would be too many with Airbus time? I do note there are some senior checkies at Tiger who are ex Virgin 738.

WD- All A330s are crewed internally. There are plenty of Airbus qualified pilots in VAA/VAI. I have been approached personally in regard to the prospect of DE positions on the A330/B777 and would say that there is no prospect of this ever occuring.

There is an order for 6, with 4 factory aircraft. JB has rumored upto 20 by next year... International expansion in my opinion will come with the announcement of more 332's.

Hi Di Vosh,

Yeah maybe a bit more on the 300 side than I thought, but in Summer things are ramped up a bit moreand Fri Sat is more versed towards the 400, the more important thing is that the punters are recognising the advantages of the 400 over the 300 and they are managing to drag Rex customers from Burnie/Wynyard.

20 what exactly? Because it won't be new aircraft. Oh I see 20 new orders, for delivery when? 2014\2015? Yep that International expansion announcement is right around the corner. Hope no-one's holding their breath.

Yes because airlines never pick up orders of other airlines do they? (kingfisher). Nor do manufactures ever do deals for airlines if they make bigger orders.... Yes you have it all worked out. I hope JB is paying attention to you.
