Whilst I have no problem with cadets, I would not want to see one thrown into any seat of a jet (including the jumpseat) without first having gained some consolidation experience in props
Apparently cadets are to fly the ATR-72 or the F50 for a minimum of three years.

Virgin Australia Cadetship 2012 & 2013

Like some of you, my application is still 'under review'. I am a 23 yo University grad with 36 hours flight experience, GFPT and a class 1 and 2 med.

Does anybody know how they work through the applications? I wonder if those who have not yet been invited to do the testing did not make the first cut? Or maybe they are just methodically working through the applicants. I submitted my application on the 12th of July.

Would be interested to see what everyone thinks.

Beat of luck to all.

wing boy: I don't know how they evaluate the applications exactly, but last week I met with a friend of mine who is a current employee of the company and it is her second time applying. She mentioned being asked to do an aptitude test as part of the next stage, which means that they possibly have already shortlisted a few applications.

I'm yet to receive an update. Has anybody else heard anything from recruitment about the next stage?

Hey calil, just a quick question. Your virgin employed friend, are you referring to her being invited to attend the aptitude testing which others have talked about in the thread or the"next stage" after the first round of aptitude testing?

Thanks =)

Looking back over the past posts, the recruitment process for last year went roughly like this:

Applications close - 13th August 2012

Invitation for online testing - 29th August 2012

Invitation for Cadetship Information and Assessment Centre (Sydney) - 7th September 2012

Testing (Melbourne) - 11th & 12th September 2012
Testing (Sydney) - 19th & 20th September 2012

Offers - 24th October 2012

Taking all that into consideration, I estimate that the invitations for the assessment centres will be sent out this week.

So do you think that if you haven't been invited to do the online test by now, that it's probably all over fou you?

Flyboy

Got a letter confirming unsuccessful application, 40 hours experience with no ppl yet, Australian citizen, world class resume, just a bit older than 30 y old. What are they looking for, immature and irresponsible kids to put people’s lives on their hands.

Steady on now! Maybe they don't want old bastards that are going to be in the workforce for only another twenty years.

what do you mean by 'world class resume'.. in this cadetship i dont think it matters how good you look on paper - it is minimal flying hours and seems like a relatively young age.. probs early 20's at the latest.. and you also have to be an Australian citizen.

anyway i just got my rejection letter as well. I would say I was a pretty good candidate - but probably had too many hours - almost 130 hours and have my PPL and done 5 CPL subjects so IDGAF but to those who haven't received a letter yet.. brace yourselves... good luck to the people who have.. i'll see you in the right hand seat of my jet soon...

Temporary setback

I just received a rejection email for the 2013 Cadetship. For others' information I have an Honours Degree, 39hrs total time and I am 28 years old.

This is just for comparison's sake, as feedback is very limited.

I also applied last year, where I got to the online testing stage, and was not progressed further.

With respect to the online test- although I approached the questions like I was trouble-shooting in a Quick Reference Handbook checklist, I think I answered too little questions in the time provided.

More coffee next time, and I'll blaze through the ones I excel at (spatial and similar word/concepts), ignoring the time-consuming algebraic Q's till the end.

There's more than one way to skin the proverbial cat.

See you all in/through/above the weather, maybe not today, but soon.

Best of luck to all that applied. Especially those who are fully prepared for a difficult, challenging but rewarding vocation.

Wooden spoon? How'd you get a wooden spoon? Why don't I have a wooden spoon? When's the soonest I can get a wooden spoon?
