Skywest Dumps Karratha routes

I got a call from Skywest today indicating that they were dropping Karratha as one of their destinations from the end of the month. They gave me money back on my booked flight though thankfully.

Anyone know what motivated this?

Yeah was a bit out of the blue!!

I know Sino Steel (Citec Pacific) had a contract with them for how ever many days a week and then the remainder of the seats on the plane (think it was around 20%??) was then on sold to the public.

Guess either the contact has finished or Citec Pacific has found someone else to fly their guys up.

Could be a good thing though may see Virgin up to 737's permanently on their flights as quite a few people flew with XR. Was good a proper cooked brekky and great legroom.

Also gone is now any hope of a KTA-DPS flight with XR. Really weird though at one point we had the A320 in here regularly.

Interesting to see why and what happened though! 2nd time they have dumped Karratha. Nice of Qantas to happen to have lost all their red e deals on the morning and afternoon flights at the same time as XR dropping KTA.......

Is there more than one Karratha route?

Really? I thought that the A320 was earmarked for FMG and operating mainly to YFDF?

I know Sino Steel (Citec Pacific) had a contract with them for how ever many days a week
Was it limited by the rule about charter flights to ports served by an RPT operator perhaps?

wrong pilot dude the only time it came in was when it couldn't get into Cloud Break...

XR shared the Sino contract with QQ I am suspecting that the contract has now gone solely to Alliance...

That seems reasonable. Alliance have been operating more and more frequently.

I guess thats the end of the sub $200 fares.

Do they still do the Headland - Karratha - Geraldton - Perth route?

Sorry someone told me XR was flying the 320 in here often, but obviously he and I were wrong!

XR is still going Geraldton-Karratha-Geraldton from looking at the schedule for the next couple of months on Mondays.

Awesome that Alliance is doing $189 flights PER-KTA-PER and similar flight times. Too bad XR isn't telling people about it.

Actually thought they had a tie up with Virgin and would offer to put people on their services but no. Refund only apparently, wont even re route through Geraldton.
