JQ-37 cancelled due to volcano ? ?

About 45 minutes before the flight was due to depart, it was cancelled. JetStar customer service, when contacted on the phone, initially said 'aircraft problem.' Gate agents said, 'Volcanic activity.' Phone person changed to that story, too. And they basically said, tough poo! Get a refund.

No mention of volcanic activity found on TV news, or Google.

Anyone hear anything about planes being turned back to Oz due to volcanic eruptions in Indonesia tonight?

They eventually got hotels organized for Star passengers, and re-bookings. But JetStar ground staff really don't seem to be trained to handle such disruptions.

Volcano in news now

There are a couple of news reports in the last half hour - name of the volcano different in both.

Guess the later reports were correct. JetStar cancelled - and CX turned back to HKG.

Thanks, Comoman! Seems the first information re: aircraft problems was incorrect.

No need to fly on Garuda any more......

As a matter of interest ...

Ar the no-fly decisions taken by the airlines (operating crew and/or flight ops) or are they due to airspace closures imposed by the Indonesian aviation authorities in conjunction with Darwin VAAC?

Looking for parallels with the situation in Europe last April.

Air Asia and Garuda are running normal services Perth-DPS. Normal flight times as well so no extended routing. At least 8 in the last 12 hours.

Virgin and Jetstar have cancelled all flights.

Hmmm

Why don't Ben Sandilands or Geoffrey Thomas bring this to the attention of the travelling public. Oh that's right, Qantas had an unserviceable APU or a go-around somewhere today which is much more interesting...

Fair Dinkum,

Have these monkeys got a clue?

I don't care how much more a ticket costs with other airlines, I certainly wouldn't be booking a flight with these pair (and a few others)

Once again tonight:

Jetstar and Virgin cancelled all flights PER-DPS due to Volcanic ash.

Garuda and Air Asia operating Ops normal. Same route and destination.

Causing a lot of angst in check-in etc.

What an absolute joke that EVERY Australian operator has stopped flights to DPS yet CASA is apparently happy for Air Asia and Garuda to ply the PER to DPS route, blatently through an area with volcanic ash, both day and night..........

Is it just coincidence that Air Crash Investigations tonight was BA9 and 'all 4 engines have failed' over Indonesia?

Same Same but different!

Whilst the Senate Enquiry is looking at Australian operators. They should also be looking at foreign operators flying into Australia.

I am not if it could be associated with the Volcano activity but there is an Garuda A330 PK-GPF grounded due engine problems at the Melbourne International Terminal bay D-20.
