Yeah, they're going to be operated by PacBlue on Australian Domestic sectors only while being crewed by PacBlue crew based in New Zealand.

It's just cheaper that way...

I think perhaps gtseraf was on about what's to fill in the time BEFORE the 787's become available.
Cancellations from American carriers, translate into delivery slots available from 2013 onward, but I don't think Borghetti has time to wait.

If you wanna beat a rat, you gotta get up with the sun, son

The other, and perhaps even HOTTER internal rumour, is that half a dozen ex EK- A330's are to fill in the stopgap.

What is clear, is that Richard Tanner has suggested to the board that the first medium size wide body will be registered "CAT" while the next VA and VB aircraft to arrive, will be registered "PIG" and "EON", respectively

Indeed, typically it is true that the only time Airbus ever gets a mention is to keep Boeing honest when it comes to negotiating a good deal. That said, the link to a July Flight Global article (re 'VB News' thread elsewhere on PPRuNe) certainly puts forward a strong argument for the A330 - for reasons that (a) Borghetti is a fan of the aeroplane from his time at The Rat, & (b) frames are readily available right now, courtesy of a lease deal from Emirates.

Of course, as is always the case, believe it when you see whatever it is parked at the gate.

Ah the famous "Never Going to Happen"

Virgin Blue will never get flying.

Impulse will never get jets.

Bit silly making such blunt statements I reckon.

(a) Borghetti is a fan of the aeroplane from his time at The Rat,
What? He still thinks it was a more appropriate acquisition for Qantas than some 777's?

Like most pilots, all you seem to be worried about is that you're getting new (used) jets. Try being more concerned about WHO will be flying them and for HOW MUCH. That is the real question.

They won't be crewed by VB pilots. They'll be crewed by foreign contract pilots with the usual excuses about experience on type, training delays, CASA requirements, insurance requirements, the value of the Peso, the sun both coming up in the east and setting in the west, the Dow Jones, the Tom Jones, loading system Kilo, & whatever else they can think of

I'll say it again...wide bodies will be initially on domestic triangle routes to add capacity, crewed by VB. Straight from the horses mouth.
