Why would jetstar employ direct entry when they can take a cadet on for so much cheaper? So much cheaper infact they actually make money!
Direct entry will only occur when they are short of captains and then qualified FOs can expect very quick commands!

thats funny have they already started choosing who they want. have they started rejecting 700-1000 hour pilots.i t6hought they will be contacting people after 18th june.i think there is to much speculations and bullcrap being mentioned.probably just all wait and see when all the crap settles.i just cant understand why do we get this program working all over the world but nobody accepts it here.does not make sense at alllll.

hardNfast, thats part of my point and it is obvious where Jetstar are heading but not without the help of many desperate individuals. Why sign your life over just to sit in a jet? I just don't understand why you would do it? I haven't heard anyone give a justifiable answer.
Scar82, there is no need for it in Australia, when there is wealth of highly qualified and experienced pilots to choose from. Even the people running these operations and schemes openly admit that they're not required.
Why can't you accept it's a money grab? Are you really that delusional?

to get through the ACP program they might only get a rough response probably from 200 pilots nation wide maybe more. then get them all through stage 1 interviews and then charge 500 buks from stage 2 onwards.i dont understand why we pay for interviews.

Maybe it isnt needed to fulfill J* pilot recruitment needs. However large sums of money is changing hands here, so ill let you make any inferences you want.
As for reasons people would sign their life away to sit in a jet, several of my colleauges have sent in an app. Reasons they have given me include:
-It has always been their dream to fly an airliner
-It provides a high likely-hood of direct employment in said airliner
-No mucking around traversing the country in search of a first job which may or may not exist
-Although the initial salary may be low, it is perceived to be more than what may be on offer in entry level GA
-Flying is expensive, you are already paying 80k+ to get all those credentials off the street so whats another 70k (including a degree) going to matter, especially when it is unlikely i will ever actually see this money
For the record, J* will not receive my application for this intake of their cadet program. However, this offer has been put on the table, and seeks to provide opportunites to new aviators not seen in Australia for many years (if ever?). I think every aviator must be able to decide for themselves if this is right for them. Many of you need to understand that some people were born with airliners in there eyes, and that is all they have ever wanted to do. This program will satisfy these people, and provide them a clear pathway to exactly where they want to be. Only difference is, they wont be using the GA industry as a bridge, and this will, IMO, improve conditions in GA.
Good luck to us all! No matter which path we choose/chose to take!

I had to laugh when I read that Oxford Aviation Academy are hiring ground instructors and that listed as one of their pre-employment checks is...
wait for it (and remember we're talking about instructing cadets, not dealing with the general public or passengers)...
Working with Children Check
What a laugh,

The reason most of us want to become pilots is not for the money, its all about flying. Making a living off it ,is just a added bonus. If you in aviation purely for the money I think your wasting your years and $$.

Unfortunately you will realise how idiotic this comment is after it is far too late. No one is unrealistic, we dont do it to earn a million dollars, however! I can not stress this enough; If you only want to fly for fun, do not do so at the expense of those who do it for a living.
NB I've mentored many young career aviators and those who are realistic do not get this attitude.

Give it a break and lay off the wannabees. They just want a job.
"Ok, so the naive way I see it, GA - Difficult to get a Job. Cadetship - Ripped Off. Defence - 12 in, no way out and you might not end up where you want. So if you really want to enter the industry, How do you do it? The Cadetship might just be a foot in the door...?"
Soooo tired of all those who have jobs and are taking the high moral ground & laying in to the "wanabees".
Cheap shots are easy.
Most of you are in jobs so you can afford to throw barbs. The vast majority of "wanabees" have their hearts & minds (and their$s) in the right place and are willing to do whatever they can..... slogging themselves out stacking shelves, waiting tables, taking sh**t from customers, sleeping in cars, cleaning toilets...to get that first job without sacrificing their integrity. You are so quick to have a go at the "wannabees". How shameful that this industry has reduced itself to be a "johnny on the spot" situation where a CP grabs the first available starter and you create the situation where "starters" have to feel that they are "begging" for jobs by hanging about and accosting CPs.
Well if that is the way it is then you all should TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK. What sort of industry do you want to be associated with?
Sit on the outside throwing barbs....really easy
Why aren't you all looking after your mates and giving them some realistic encouragement??

You know?
You're born, you take sh!t. You get out in the world, you take more sh!t. You climb a little higher, you take less sh!t. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what sh!t even looks like.
That's amazing meggo, you have described just about every job I held (often up to three of them at a time) while I was slogging my way up the ladder. Nothing unique there mate.
No point B!ch!ng, P!ssing and M@aning about it Son. Just get on with it!

Meggo,
You have no idea, mate. No matter how you dress it up this "cadetship" is not a turd sandwich, it's just a turd between two pieces of bread.
That my friend it your realistic encouragement.
