Guys,
the problem is the media. Its like Y2K all over again... its mass hysteria

The H1N1 in reality is no more dangerous that any variant of seasonal flu

There are about 30,000 people in the USA that die each year from complications around seasonal flu. However they are all either very old, very young, depressed immune system, or chronic disease.

Sadly the media is blowing it out of all proportion. Of course the virus is serious but unless you fall into one of the above categories you are unlikley to face death if you live in a country with health facilities like Australia has.

The public are spooked like they were during SARS and that is the danger for airlines when passengers start canceling bookings and asking for refunds

It affects cash flow which is critical.

I am hoping that that it will not lead to redundancies in cabin crew

i actually dont think that reduced hours being implemented without 100 % agreement is legal.

But i am sure every legal option available will be explored to avoid job losses

Jetstar has announced 30% reduction for flights to Japan in June because large school groups have cancelled their reservations due to swine flu and will maybe looki at doing the same for July.

Their is a CSM in Brisvegas who does go into the BOS office on her holidays to help out when they are short of others putting their hand up.....................also on her days off i believe

I think people have missed the unique characteristics of the H1N1, unlikie all other flu strain , this one attacks young and healthy, not old and depressed.

This virus prefers their host below 40 and healthy. No scientist can understand this virus and no cure is available once you missed the 48 hours threshold period.

No scientist can explain or understand how this virus can leap from animal to human, how is that possible? How how come it can spread so fast from human to human? What happens when you fail to take anti viral within a 48 hours threshold period?

The reason why this is scary is because so little is known about this virus compared to all the ordinary virus that people here seemed to have the medical degree to compare and lump them together.

and this won't be the first time unmarried middle aged CSM volunteer their time in the office, many goes into the team manager office to gossip about crews after they get off the flight, some even spend hours there to do this dedicated gossip duty, presumably to try and get some other people into trouble. there's quite a few famous ones that does that all the time. All ex long haul perth base promoted csm have this added into their job description, so when they transferred over to sydney base, they continue this perth base job description.

Once again for the uninformed, it's not the severity of H1N1 influenza that is the issue.

The issue is the the number of simultaneous cases that will occur. They have the capacity to overwhelm the health system. In addition, diabetes or pregnancy can make the disease life threatening.

Wait till you get mass absenteeism at work. I would also expect that if you get this flu, you will be off work for quite a whle.

Dope !

Heads down.
.....I'm ex PER based and who says we all do what you reckon we do re: dobbing in our fellow collegues.

When I was there ( 2001-2004) we had the best Base - I actually loved coming to work and loved the flying. Due in part to the way it was managed at the time. We were not trained to dob. The Base operated on care & respect for each other !!!!

Can some one ....pleeeeze get this clown booted off Pprune

Head down

People like you inflaming this hysteria will cost your own job that you are so worried about, by creating further unwarranted fear and concern bolstered by the media who's only interest is ensuring their jobs.

thanks for that, yes back to the topic and not about retards ex perth staff.
One more thing: I wonder why, if Perth base was so well managed, the base manager then (2001-2004) who later came to sydney was sacked on the spot and told to pack her desk by 1400 and escorted out by security that afternoon, she did manage that base, according to stubby jumbo did such a wonderful job in creating morale, yet sacked without notice not long after she left the mess in Perth and came to sydney. None of the promotions back then in perth was merit, every single one was brown nosing activity. No wonder the very person who made those promotion decision was later sacked on the spot when she came to sydney. It surely cannot be because of her impeccable Perth base management style? Or was it that she was never cut out to be a manager in the first place?

"were not trained to dob. The Base operated on care & respect for each other !!!!"
MY FOOT. Ask any sydney or melbourne crew who had ever done a base swap to perth during 01-04 and none will have anything positive to say.

what a crock load of qantas ****, in this case perth base ****.

Ochre,

I don't know about others who've posted on this topic, or general visitors to this forum, but I for one am offended by the image you posted! It is offensive to all sorts of people, but most of all to those athletes who, through (mostly) no fault of their own, have suffered terrible disabilities, and who through sheer force of will and strength of remaining limb/s, rise to the challenge of doing something so positive as choosing to compete on the world stage.

And, by posting this puerile image, you've just denigrated everything they've worked so hard to achieve.

I hope you see it my way and choose to remove it by your own choice, before the moderator does.

Isn't there another thread on DG&P about scraping the bottom of the barrel? If so, I suggest that you give thanks and praise to whomever it was that started a thread in honour of you!

I agree, imagine being that poor kids' parents and seeing that picture. At least he is getting out there and trying, which is more than some 'fully functioning' (and I use the term loosely!) people do.

Can we get back on the topic please? Which is aboutt jobs going, and from what I hear we haven't seen the beginning of it yet. Wish it weren't true but the lack of information coming from the powers that be is disturbing at the least.

This swine flu will hurt badly on top of the ifc, other airlines are making staff take leave without pay I wonded will this be an option to save forced redundancy. I also wonder if the company will want to pay redundancy I would get approx 52 weeks only to find they are short staffed if it picks up again. I saw on deutsch bella news the german goverment is making up the difference in pay for the opel workers as they are on a shorter working week.
will kevin rudd chip in so I can have gardening leave ?

ps please remove the photo of the special olympician its in poor taste.

Qantas Promotional Team

I have just heard on the grapevine that AP who runs the warehouse at alexandria that she is now going to be in charge of the Qantas Promotional Team.

that should be the cue for anyone on the team or considering it to run at great speed in the other direction.

Lest you be dressed in white stockings and expected to look like audrey hepburn or if male like cary grant.

If this nincompoop is going to run the very public face of qantas ...god help us all!

Get off your sanctimonious high horse guard.

I've met more than several pilots over the years who were complete and utter wankers but I'm not stupid enough to tar them all with the same brush.

Yes the post is offensive but only one individual posted it.
