Santa And Tiba

From ABC News:

Air traffic controllers clear Santa for landing

Posted 1 hour 30 minutes ago
Air Services Australia says it is making preparations for a special flight into Australian air space tonight.
Spokesman Rob Walker says they are expecting Santa late tonight, and staff are ready to track him on radar.
"He's actually going to head down the international dateline before making a big right hand turn and heading across the Pacific towards Australia," he said.
"We're expecting him to make landfall in Australia somewhere after midnight.
"He's not been too precise at this stage obviously letting us know that he needs to keep a little bit of magic and secrecy about what he's doing."
How's Santa set up for ops in TIBA airspace?

Hey Howabout,

N O P R O B L E M .......
He's much too fast and flies too high for the 'normal' punter type acft!

And when he's 'delivering', He's mostly at 'Chimney Height', sort of like VFR
'BELOW 5000', so he don't even need to talk to 'Big Brudda'.

That's
Irrelevant
Because
He's SAnta..........

So, don' worry, you'll still get ya new toy........

That's fine Griffo, but he has to descend to operate VFR BLW A050. As far as I know he's NORDO traffic, so he can't broadcast his position in accordance with TIBA. It's just that I have this recurring vision of Donner and Blitzen (along with my presents) being shot out the back of a Trent.

How sad it is that you cannot invite the little kids up to the flight deck to see if they can see Santa anymore. We used to have em sit on the F/Os lap (one at a time!) to have a good look, and I always made sure I had a big bag of jellybeans for the kids to have (we had always knocked off the black ones before reaching top of climb) now the F/O would be considered a "bit odd" (never mind that the bloke would be a innocent father of four himself), and as for a Capt. with a bag of jelly beans!!!?? can you imagine it today? What a damm godawful world we now live in, well at least the ATC lads are doing their bit, as the kids can track the big fella across the sky on the net. A Happy and safe Xmas to you all.

Well, I hope the old fella has the sleigh TCAS equipped, cos he'll need it today, otherwise the crack about Reindeer mince could come true.

Teresa Green,

What an apt sentiment. My eldest son, years ago, was lucky enough to get some time in the jump-seat and get to talk aviation with the Capt and F/O on several flights. Without fail, and regardless of the airline, the guys on the flight-deck were fantastic and always responded to the inquisivetiness. In short, having the kids up there was a big PR plus and belayed the false impression that airline pilots were 'up themselves'.

His best experience was flying into WSSS in a QF 767 to touchdown. The crew were brilliant and 15 years later he still talks about it.

It's sad that knee-jerk policy now prohibits similar treatment for the next generation.

As regards your jelly-bean comment, that's sad too. "Do you like gladiator movies" was once a joke. Unfortunately, if you're getting on, the abiding view of the "politically correct" is that you're some sort of pervert if you smile at a Mum and her kid in the stroller - merely because you're remembering, and regretting, the passing of a time when your children were the same age.

God bless Captain and have a good Christmas

Grrr hes not comming by air

and here are some reasons why,

1. after relocating his manufacturing to china for cheap labor costs he lost millions on recalled toys due to high levels of lead in the toys and so,

2. he cannot afford to pay for
- jepp ammendments
- medical
- instrument ratings
- a type rating for his new sleigh
- icao language check

All is not lost however, a solution has been found,
this year it will be virtual santa, so boys n girls be prepared to check your inbox for some virtual presents,

just like the real thing only cheaper.

yes i have had too much eggnog

peace out

Yes Teresa life was a lot simpler in those days, men were men, boys were boys and poofs were something you put your feet on.

Where is Richard Dudley from AirServices Australia, normally on the radio news telling everyone about Santa Clauses Flightplan etc. Nothing like bulldust to the travelling public.

Big Dick Dud

Stationair8.

Mr Richard Dudley is now the General Manager of Corporate Affairs, i.e. in charge of more than 50 blood sucking spin doctors. The fastest growing Business Unit within AsA...mind you with all the bull**** that TFN puts out we need them all!!

What with ATC in total disaster mode and Business Development in "last one leaving turn the lights out..." mode its good to know something in AsA works!

Thank God the journos is Oz are so stupid and just regurgitate Big Dick's press releases otherwise the number of staff in CA might reach the 100 mark.

So Santa is sort of below the Dudster's level these days.

Mind you I thought Big Dick missed out on a great opportunity in the last couple of weeks.....

Surely the sight of TFN dressed up as Santa handing out presents to the ATC's kids at the staff Christmas party would have been priceless spin!!

Ah well must be off his game???
