QF tailpipe fire ex-SIN

A little birdy just pooped in my pigeon hole.

News is QPA had a tailpipe fire ex-SIN and there is some damage to the 330…….

More to come. People are being called as we speak, I was out to dinner with one of them, wonder if any engineers want the overtime to fix it……

Talking

I thought the quote was:

I'm here until Thursday....try the veal!

(Sorry for the thread drift. Hope all is well with our guys in SIN).

QF52 19MAY SIN BNE is still indicating 333 equipment in the QF system.

Seat map is offline but is still indicating same equipment.

Maybe the will have removed the baked Chinese engineer from the tailpipe by then. He should be done by now.

Best all.

My understanding is that the aircraft was operating the QF78 SIN-PER, not the QF52 SIN-BNE.

For those who have seen the aircraft post the event, did the plastic melt?

This was a serious fire! Not just a tailpipe flame out!
Entire right wing was engulfed in flames for around 20secs!
Bad scorch marks and soot from fuselage through to 2nd canoe, damage to leading edge and trailing edge, paint bubbled etc! Sounds like a very close call!
Amazed that this has not made the media!
GD must have paid the Fairfax and News Corp. bills this month!!!

GASP!

That must have been some tailpipe fire!

Sounds as though it's going to be a fairly expensive repair job.

There is heaps of money in the scab fund QF can use to pay for it.

Just a sign of things to come

NO man push backs ring a bell!

(Probably a fire bell or two).

No man transit, no man push back, fuel leak, hot start

BANG!
Whats that gunna cost ya!

That video is a preserved engine being brought back into service. Rather differant to the QF 330 saga.

I expect to be chastised if I am incorrect but my take on it is as follows

Aircraft pushback as per normal in SIN - NO LICENCED ENGINEER

Tailpipe Fire occurs - UNLICENCED ENGINEER DOESN"T KNOW WHAT TO DO

Calls Cockpit - FIRE FIRE FIRE SHUTDOWN ENGINE

An appropriate licenced Engineer would have told the crew "Tailpipe Fire No # Engine, Shut Off Fuel, Motor engine over until fire disperses on my call"

Instead a life threatening incident occurs

NO LICENCED ENGINEER OPERATION ENDANGERS LIVES - WHEN WILL THE QANTAS MANAGEMENT WAKE UP, WHEN SOMEONE DIES ?

AUSTRALIA HAS THE BEST AVIATION SAFETY RECORD FOR GOOD REASON - DON'T LET PROFIT MONGERING DESTROY IT

IT IS TIME FOR THE AUSTRALIAN PUBLIC TO STAND UP

A preserved engine billows SMOKE not flames,

Smoking like a HQ holden on a cold winter morning.

THAT was more like a Saturn V rocket launch not an inhibited engine start.

But I guess that if you inhibit an engine with liquid oxygen it would look like this.

Maybe during the day, but at night it looks far more dramatic!

I remember hearing about these events which they generally do late at night to avoid a public spectacle. A real occasion for the engineers who make it a must see event.

Im pretty sure i was emailed this vid a few years ago. Might see if i can dig it up.

In my many decades of day & night engine runs with new donks,

NEVER have I seen one do that!

Unless there was a fuel metering or air flow problem...

Anyone else?

PS

Possibly if you use used cooking oil?

Surely the "engine tailpipe fire" recall checklist would mitigate this to some degree?
