At the least V are paying for type ratings, that is a step in the right direction...though that seems to be over looked by some.
In fact, the Flight Crew are paying for their type ratings by being paid less than the industry standard. A similar thing is happening in QF Shorthaul and Jetstar where crew members who check out on the aircraft go onto a lower pay rate which increases incrementally over 3-4 years up to the standard pay rate. The pay difference effectively pays for their endorsement.

To follow on from GB's post, they're probably paying for their training every year given the quoted rates are about $30K behind what others earn on similar equipment.

hey A. Le Rhone

There is no global pilot shortage, and if there were it was short lived.

Have a look in the US forum and at the serious rogering our counterparts are receiving there. They are trying to hold on to what little they have left of a career, T & C's and salary. Furloughs left right and centre, and that is after the lay-offs in non-union operations.

These guys and girls are starting to go global to stay afloat.

Hypocritical words from the same poster who just over a year ago was striving to reduce european payscales by working for 'Wizzair'.

Arh... Yes there is and it's openly admitted by many operators worldwide and well considered to be the major issue for the future too, now the oil price is dropping back (thanks to those oil futures-traders going bankrupt overnight when they got too greedy!).

Did you take note of the huge aircraft orders at recent Airshows, Boeing and Airbuses projections?

The ones in the USA you speak of are actively being targeted by Emirates, RyanAir, Etihad, Air Pacific (?) and the like. The demand simply shifts through regions and it's a matter of the expanding airlines trying to attract those pilots with attractive packages. If the package aint there, people don't come and many leave accordingly.

EXACTLY.

The Airlines (Accountants) listen to passenger numbers and crewless aeroplanes.

My little part of the world (VB) is a case in point. The salaries on offer were based on 'start up' promises. Without getting into the emotions of it all, the salaries have been progressively improving - not world standard and not as big as the next guy who is already puffing his chest out but certainly going in the right direction and to the degree that most of the resignations have ceased.

V Aus has disappointed us all in their terms and conditions. Those who accept the jobs do so for their own reasons whether it to stick it out for the eventual improvement in T&C's or to stick it to them when the better opportunity arises elsewhere.

For those who do accept the V Aus jobs enjoy it for what you can achieve.

I never took that job once i found out about the Wizzair conditions(No bull#hit).Wizzair can pay crap because there paying according to the Eastern Euroupe's costs of living. Were not Russians max!!Your going to be a VOZ pilot living in SYD, Australia one off the most expensive cities in the world. Im not screwing my own backyard up(OZ) to come back for such shi^^y conditions but it sounds like you are, very sad indeed. I think we as pilots are worth a little more then a Cabin Supervisor!

And MAX Dont get smart because your daddy taught you how to use PPRUNE previous posts history check...gees your good!

doggydog,

You are indeed a bitter and angry person.

Your previous postings show you willing to sell your soul for 'a big shiny jet' and screw the backyard of half the known world.

Not having any luck eh plugger? No wonder with that massive chip on your shoulder.

And for the record, Im not a V Oz cruise FO.

Sorry to dissapoint you.

Its not just the VB guys.Only the desperate few would even consider the move.
With the ozzie dollar now weakening even the O/S guys will have another reason not to come.Thats on top of poor pay, crap staff travel,1000hrs/yr,Silverwater,commuting costs,Sydney basing,no loss of license, and of course the brillant uniform.

It boils down to each to their own...

Should You find the pay acceptable then apply / if it does not meet your High expectations of self worth..., then don't...

no I am not going to V-Aus, but I am not all bitter and twisted towards those that are

Hey 2dots...

Enjoy your $50K and individual contract for the rest of your life. At the moment I quite enjoy being on an EBA and I'm sure I'll be happy on the one in the next job I'm going to.

Are they going to get enough people to even satisfy CASA? I thought they needed experienced 777 captains to help build an experience base and then go from there. Sounds like things have changed alot from the 2000+ qualified applicants they were going on about a while back.

Just for the interest of those wanting to know where things stand at the moment. The expressions of interest were re-opened last month and I started to fill out the various questions but never bothered to finish as I discovered the awful T&Cs on offer. However I still received an email for an interview invite so there must be some numbers (at least on the FO side) to fill and now slightly urgently it would appear.

Well V Australia reckon they're ready to go....

I guess all they need now is some staff to sign some employment contracts

smh.com.au

August 11, 2008 - 3:35PM

Virgin Blue has confirmed that it's on schedule for a mid-December take-off of its new international arm V Australia.

Virgin Blue said today it was "continuing its steady march towards its scheduled December 15 take-off" with the first group of cabin crew trainers being put through their paces today.

The 11 cabin crew trainers and development managers are demonstrating V Australia's cabin crew training course to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to gain certification to begin training the first group of new cabin crew recruits.

The first cabin crew training course will begin on September 1 with 26 new recruits who, once trained and certified, will be the launch crew for V Australia.

V Australia will fly direct from Sydney to Los Angeles, with flights from Brisbane to Los Angeles expected to commence in March, 2009.

"Not to be forgotten, the Flight Crew have their own reclining seat and a bed in their rest area".
