..............oh well pinky we are all 'suffering' from something ! No need to 'regret' where all entitled to an opinion in here (well we where 'till last night anyway!) Some just can't see the writing on the wall with running at such a large loss for whatever reason/s!
It's not my job to "convince " you nor is it anyone elses for that matter just to put forward personal views, just as you did. "Oracle" just seemed to have explained it a little better & he beat me to it:-)
Now let's hope that the administrators can turn around the Co.
Capt Wally:-)

The answer is simple. Just look at their website and compare it with REX.
O'Connor Airlines offers one flat fare rate.
Look at REX. They offer different fare classes and fares such as:
Fully Flexible
REX flex
REX biz
REX saver
REX net
REX child
REX senior
It takes more than just aircraft and pilots to make an airline.
Those back room accountants have a thing called Yield Management and it will claw your salary packages from the skies if you ignore it.

Fred Basset,
A little of topic but noting one of your statements
you will find that both MTG and MGB are Mt Gambier, MTG is the ICAO code, and MGB is the IATA code, both are used by the airlines.
Cheers, SUC

I thought the airport code for Mount Gambier was MGB

Condolences to the O'Connor people and hope a buyer is found.
Was the effective grounding of their ancient C441's a couple of months ago a factor in this?

It does not need to be the end of O'Connor airlines if they will just change their ticketing practices.
Some small airlines have such simple reservations systems, that their search engines cannot offer multiple fare classes, or conditions. If that is the case here then a simple change of search engine and ticketing policy will save that airline.
O'Connor already have a huge advantage in their code share arrangements with Qantas. Just don't squander it.
Air NZ deliberately oversells seats by 145% to get it's load factors and unless you have a reservations search engine which allows you all kinds of flexibility, then come the day they fly you will have 33% cancellation rates even without competition from REX.

FOKKER,
OK, I stand corrected, ICAO have 4 letter designators, whilst IATA is 3... Thus, YMTG is Mt Gambier under ICAO, the "Y" indicating it is located in Australia.

O'Connors should stop complaining about price discounting. What arn't Mount Gambier residents allowed to have access to cheap fares? Does O'Connor airlines want Rex to increase their fares? Even though Rex is now the sole operator of the MGB-MEL route they still keep their fares inline with MGB-ADL fares even offering $98.00 to MEL. As for the ADL-PUG route it seems that the loads for pax coming from ADL for day trips are good but in reverse the loads are poor why don't they offer discount fares on the off peak flights?? In all wish them the best of luck I hope they still fly in the future, They just need to address their pricing structure and stop playing the blame game and then they would be one sweet airline!

The troubled regional operator O'Connor Airlines will cease operating tomorrow night.
The administrator has announced that, despite significant initial interest, there were no offers to acquire the South Australian-based airline as a going concern.
It says that continuing trading losses, declining support from customers, flight crew shortages and significant aircraft maintenance issues have contributed to the decision.
Passengers affected by the imminent closure are being contacted by O'Connor Airlines staff.
O'Connor has provided air services between Adelaide, Mount Gambier and Mildura in north-west Victoria, and was the only operator flying direct between Adelaide and Port Augusta.

Sad day for the O'Connor family and all the staff.
Australian aviation loses another well known name joining the likes of Kendell, Hazelton, Ansett etc.
Never a nice feeling to be unemployed in the aviation industry.

As someone who has done many 'five mile finals for 36 at MTG' myself, it's a sad, sad, day!
Well, lets hope that the shortage of experienced personel, (at least one contributing factor) will help those affected find other work quickly.
Three times over the years I've had it happen to me. Very lonely feeling, so I know what you're going through boys and girls. Keep your chin up. One door closes, another opens.
