Surely now there are less of us they can afford to pay us more...
My theory was to divide the total salary for all ATC (fully staffed) between how ever many are left controlling.
We'll be rich!

they need more than 1 instructor - they need 10 if they expect to get 90+ ab initios through this year - i think that figure is a fantasy.....
3.5% for the EBA - that is a joke - surely they are not that detached from reality, the pure economics of supply and demand should warrant a rise bigger than that. Controllers are in demand worldwide - ASA must surely realise that if they offer such a pathetic increase that there will be alot more empty seats in the centres.

Refunds are now given for through flight in TIBA and compensation for 'avoiding' TIBA.
Yet courses starting at the college don't have the full compliment of trainees due to 'lack of suitable candidates'.
Seems to me that either the recruiting process is flawed (imagine that) or that the people we would otherwise attract have done the sums and it isn't worth the effort to pursue an ATC career anymore.

Look, you people over there in the Middle East Training Centre (formerly AsA) really are going to have to get your act together. You are simply not generating the staff to meet future requirements of the ME- especially as you restructure into SDE (Supply Direct Environment- where it is hoped that students will leave the Academy disgruntled enough to go directly to the departure lounge) that has to cater for the IAA and DFS as well.

It's OK. Apparently we don't need ATC to be instructors. We will just employ some educators to teach them ATC.

From my recollection the Tassie experiment was an abject failure because of a few factors.
1) Workload, the students were doing full time uni and full time ATC training; on some days they were doing 12 hour days and then had to go home and study/do assignments.
2) The students were almost always school leavers/uni drop outs; there were significant 'maturity' issues happening in that environment. If you weren't of true uni age, you couldn't get by or afford to give up your other work; or if you did you worked other jobs too on top to get by.
3) The culture of the place was these people are the best of the best, and those at ATC locations were told that too; much pleasure was taken by ATC crushing the little upstarts coming from that useless uni. And the upstarts didn't like it cause they were the best of the best.
I'm sure there were many other reasons it didn't work. But regarding the ATC training, there were more ATC instructors in Launceston than there are in the current college. But probably the same instructor/student ratio as about now. Although I believe it was one on one instruction for the most part, unlike the current environment.

Well the 21st April was supposed to be the first day of EBA discussions, but ASAs lead man took holidays. Obviously no-one thought to advise him in the last 2+ years that this date was set in 2005.
So we now wander around to the revised May 12th date and knock me down with a feather but Airservices are 4-5 weeks away from finalising their offer.
Couldn't expect much more really, its taken them 5 years to work out they are heading towards a staffing hump.Two First Names (Greg Russell) is surprised,even though on his self proclaimed 'No Bullsh!t' tour of 2005 he was looked in the eye and told that this would come to pass, he blames previous management.
We are in a crisis and getting worse, we have an age demographic where that if a fair payrise doesn't eventuate, that we will lose experienced controllers at or near retirement age because their final average salary will go backwards in relation to inflation if they stay on.
