I’m sure you guys are just playing semantics but the add does say “B777 experience or equivalent”. There are plenty of Aussies with that experience.

So does anyone know what they are going to pay a 787 Captain?

I guess it would be the same as a A330 Captain?

And I think that's around 180K? am I close?

As if anyone would leave their highly paid 777 job to join Jetstar to fly a slightly newer aircraft.

Not according to the information i've got

Seems the intention was to limit the extent of conversion, but there has been somewhat of a blowout...

I reckon it'll be quite popular in the short term. There won't be many other 787 qualified crew around and so those people that are trained by J* could probably name their own price on the open market. Short term hip pocket pain, long term potentially very significant gain!

Don't know where you get your info from "pod", but I know the Alteon guy personally who is setting up the course and it's 5 (FIVE) days acording to him ????? Someones bulls----ing here ?

And, by the way, that money sounds ok to me, have 4 Aussies right here beside me who would come back tomorrow, or maybe next August.. Don't kid yourself, there are plenty willing souls with 777 time just waiting in the wings..

I confirm it is 5 days - according to Boeing's own publication 'Boeing 787 Dreamliner Flight Deck Safety, Comfort, Efficiency' - produced by Mike Carriker, Chief Pilot 787 Program.

Podbreak - I'd say he knows more than you on this subject.

As for the 'dough' - it is already specified in the current J* EBA - "wide body" - and it is a lot less than $180k! Will they pay more ??

Personally i would take a look if the training pay was up around 250K AUD

As a line training captain in EK on the 777 my takehome pay including housing allowance which i am using to pay the villa off here is 210K AUD therabouts!! Need over 300K to match that at Jetstar and that is not including kids education and full medical insurance available here. BUT home is home and for 250K gross might take a sneaky peak at it!!

You're right, home is home.

If paying tax and having a lower disposable income is the price I pay to live in Australia, then I'm happy to continue paying it.

Why would this be any different from the A330 introduction? How many guys came back then? There will be some, but not the flood that everyone predicts. Money talks.
And from what I hear, its about 170Kish plus super, 9 days at home. They are working very hard. Don't expect that to change until (if) the frequencies increase.
All third hand info, so don't quote me on it.
You'll also be on an AWA, so for those not familiar with Australian industrial law, I'd do a bit of research about your rights (or lack there of), under that type of agreement.

5 days?
And that will cover HUD and RNP as well?
I doubt it.

Lets be real, If your on the 777, you are currently an expat (may commute but still off shore none the less)
So if your an expat then you are constantly looking for something better. This gig at Jetstar is worth a look but its going to be a lifestyle thing and if they cant give you the time at home in Aus that you want, then its not worth it. I would want to be sitting in a hotel in Narita being told thats your day off!
As far as the coin is concerned, there will continue to be demand for 777/787 pilots and it's a matter of time before more offshore airlines allow crews to be based in Australia and when that happens the Jet* boys will jump ship without a second thought.

These pilots will apparently be on AWA's which one would surmise would contain better T & C 's than the current J* guys.."enjoy".

After five years they will go back to whatever the J* deal is and whatever their seniority will give them. So if J* expands then they should be able to maintain the left hand seat, if it doesn't then they will go back to a FO's position.

That's the deal and the risk. In five years the Jetstar deal may be better than it is now or it may not. Market forces will decide I guess. Go into it with your eyes open lads and lasses.

Capt Krem....

Pretty much spot on,

The crap about the days off o/s is a joke....they have to give you 10 days off per month and home for 6 months of the year and 9 for the other 6 months (soon to 10-11 in the new EBA)..and most of the guys getting around 15 days at home at the moment.....

Whatever else is reported is absolute rubbish!!

Also from the Boeing website
767 / 757 time 8 day transition
737/717 time 11 days
The JQ boys need to bring this to management and CASA attention, that even Boeing recognise B717 time as being relevant experience on a substantially similar type.
Should set the cat amongst the pidgeons.
