Angry Skytrans Expands

Skytrans has expanded to incorporate CAS and QRA into its operations.

Some management has be made redundant ( as so nicely put )

I also hear the Chief Pilot has resigned after 15 years... Things may be changing??

Can anyone confirm this

From what I know..

QRA already owned CAS, and aquired Skytrans some time ago, yet let them continue to run their show prior to this announcment.
The group I think will now be known as 'The Skytrans Group'.. QRA (The Wild Group) are now taking full management control.
People were made redundant, but the outlook on the future of this "new" player is very exciting! Can't wait to see what the next chapter is..

Skytrans expands??? I really hope it does. However when key personnel vote with thier feet you really have to wonder.

Redundancies? Thats an awfully nice way to say sacked isn't it?

Mr Wild & Co have thier work cut out for them to maintain the high standard set by their predecessors, presuming of course that high standards and service excellence is on their agenda.

AH still working there? What about RA? Both top blokes who are an asset to that company. Would be a shame if they were squeezed out.

Funny you mention that. Just goes to show the intelligence of the new owner when they sack there best asset. Barnard must be fuming.

Whats their best asset? Or who?????
I doubt if barnard would give a sh*t, he probably made enough for the next 5 generations to live off.
Its about time someone brought that company into the present and run at least some turbines for the guys to play with. Then burn them and move on

Was suprised to hear who the new GM was. Ex Aborignal Air GM. When he turned up, he hired some of his mates from his last job in Cambodia, sacked the CP and ran Aboriginal Air into receivership in a matter of months. He is still a quite unpopular man throughout Central Australia.

Great......Hardly

Better than some other operators.......yes

It was a GA outfit which had seen minimal progression. Look at all the other operators in the region. Caravans, 228's, Bras, metros etc.

So the company is expanding and people leave........so what?

Are people out of their comfort zone with change/progression for the company?

Life goes.......replacements found........time to get out of the stone age.

Bras's, Metros, Caravans?

Skytrans is or was a 404 operation and Barnard made plenty of $$$ with them. He knew it was a winning formula. Progression is great however you have to wonder why key employees are resigning. Probably sick of whinging "Gimme a turbine" pilots like Swamp Monkey.

Lets take up his debate in 2 years and see where Skytrans is sitting.

Of course he did, old 404's with plenty of hrs from third world countries are cheap. Refit them, a new paint job and they're a cash cow.

Probably sick of whinging "Gimme a turbine" pilots like Swamp Monkey.
Who's whinging about not flying a turbine. The outfit had minimal progression. ie, never expanded beyond 10 seater pistons. Pilots there are probably sick of no progression and bugger all pay for working up to 1000hrs a year.

Would you prefer to fly as passenger in a relatively new dash to townsville or sit in an unpressurised 30yr piston twin?

prefer to fly? prefer to work?

Correct. I am sure I'd rather be a passenger in dash8. And I'm sure pilots would prefer to fly them and engineers work on them. (Ever hear of an engineer preferring to work on a 30 year old piston) Having said that, makes me question WHY people are voting with their feet despite the fleet upgrade.

new dash
I think you'll find most of these Dash 8's are over 20 years nearing 30 years old. I know most of them are only double digit serial numbers.

Speedjet - whose Dash 8s are you talking about ???

The Dash 8 entered service in 1984 and the ones that Sunstate (Qlink) operate are all late 90s early 00s.

I was referring to QRA's - Skytrans.

From the CASA website, they have Dash 8 serial numbers - 004, 005, 008, and 173.

004 in particular is a very early mod status Dash 8.

I heard at one stage when EAA were preparing aircraft for sale that Bombardier were interested in purchasing it for research purposes.

I think swamp monkey was referring to what is actually flown to Townsville on RPT service - Qlink DASH 8s and Skytrans 404s. Does the Skytrans Dash go to Townsville at all?

Wink

I haven't seen the Skytrans Dash fairing the skies to TL on RPT ops. I would suggest it may not be a bad idea though. A little bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone (or did it?)

As far as I am aware none of the existing Skytrans Titan drivers are opting to take progression onto the Dash fleet. Are positions being offered or are the conditons not attractive enough?

I am surprised because surely this option would have to be more attractive than paying Q-Link $10K for a Dash endorsement, Or not?
