Update: 10.25am ONE of the world's fastest growing airlines, Emirates Airlines, could soon be servicing Fiji.
The international airline of the United Arab Emirates was approached by Fiji's Labour Minister Bernadette Rounds-Ganilau to provide two flights a week to Fiji since it now provides 34 flights to Australia.
Ms Rounds-Ganilau had the honour of meeting Wayne Pearce, the Vice President of Operations of ETIHAN, the major airline for the United Arab Emirates, and Prince Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Head of Emirates Airlines, Minister for Civil Aviation and also a member of the Dubai Royal Family.
The meeting took place while the minister was enroute to Islamabad, Pakistan recently for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Asia Pacific Conference on Low Cost Carriers.
''I also invited him (Mr Pearce) to come and visit Fiji and see for himself the Bula Spirit of our beautiful country,'' she added.
Talks were also held with potential investors and people who wanted to act as agents for Fiji products like Fiji Water and Pure Fiji.
