Newcastle Airport welcomes Norfolk Air 13/02/2007

13th February 2007

Newcastle Airport is pleased to welcome Norfolk Air as our newest aviation partner.

Norfolk Air has announced that services between Norfolk Island and NewcastleAirport will commence on Monday 7th May 2007. Norfolk Air will operate a weekly service between the Island and NewcastleAirport.

The announcement comes after considerable research was undertaken by Norfolk Island in collaboration with NewcastleAirport.

Whilst Norfolk Island is an Australian territory the flights will be classified as International - passengers will require a passport to travel and will need to undergo customs, immigration and quarantine checks.

NewcastleAirportis currently working with existing local agencies to provide these services.

NewcastleAirport, CEO, Paul Hughes is extremely pleased by the decision and is looking forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with Norfolk Air.

“I would like to welcome Norfolk Air to the region and am confident that both the service and the region will benefit enormously from this new route.

The catchment area serviced by Newcastle Airport is in excess of one million people and we are confident that the region will embrace this service with the same enthusiasm it has done Newcastle Airport’s existing routes.”

With passenger numbers continuing to soar, the announcement of a new airline and a new route is a great achievement for NewcastleAirport.

Paul Hughes added that the new flights would provide an excellent starting point to pave the way for more international destinations,

“The new Norfolk Island service is a great starting point for NewcastleAirport and other airlines to gauge the regions interest in using NewcastleAirport as an International port.”

NewcastleAirportwill be working closely with Norfolk Air in the coming months to promote the new service and the fabulous destinations at each end of the new route.
