More aircraft for Alliance
Found this on Jetspotter.com, they kept this quiet.
Fokker 50 VH-FKY (ex B-12271) is due BNE 2:00pm Saturday from Darwin.
This is the first of two F50s Alliance have purchased from Mandarin Airlines in Taiwan. Expect FKZ (ex B-12272) to arrive within the month.
Will be in full Mandarin c/s.

Huh, where the hell are they going to put Fokker 50's in Australia. Skywest?

Alliance Airlines have purchased two Fokker 50s from Taiwan (ex Mandarin I hear). These will be VH-FKY and -FKZ.
I also read that after these 2 F-50s there are 3 more F-100s coming.

Don't know how it's done at the moment. Just what I heard. AA did a charter out of perth a few months back that went ph-bln-ka-ad in the 100. An XR 50 flew ad-oly-ad for AA then the pax jumped back in the 100 for the return leg(s). Would expect the two to be related if the rumour is true...

Update from Jetspotters
Arrival for FKY has now been delayed and is now due into DRW around 10am-midday tomorrow. ETA into Brisbane is now 6pm Saturday.
As it's a ferry flight it may be subject delays!

The March issue of Australian Aviation has the following on Alliance’s current and future fleet.
Alliance Airlines has purchased two Fokker 50s from Mandarin Airlines in Taiwan with VH-FKY msn 20284 ex B-12271 planned for delivery in February and VH-FKZ msn 20286 ex B-12272 planned for delivery in April.
Alliance Fokker 100 VH-FKD entered service on December 13 when it operated QQ835 from Townsville to Phosphate Hill. This brings the current Alliance operational Fokker 100 fleet to five, comprising VH-FKA, VH-FKD, VH-FKF, VH-FWH and VH-FWI. They will be joined in early March by VH-FKG which is currently under pre-service maintenance in Brisbane. A further three Fokker 100's VH-FKJ, VH-FKK and VH-FKL await delivery from the US to Brisbane and they are planned to enter service by August. Fokker 100 P2-ANB continues on lease to Air Niugini while Fokker 100 P2-ANA now registered VH-FKE which returned from lease to Air Niugini in August '06 is parked at Brisbane awaiting its turn to enter the maintenance hangar.
So from the above it would appear they are planning on having 9 F100s and 2 F50s in service. If this is the case looks likes they will be recruiting fairly heavily this year.

Careful alliance, you going to begin to bite more than you can chew. 
The only reason I see, is that there is a huge demand for F50in europe for lease and sale....

I seriously doubt we will see any Alliance aircraft do any work in Europe.
They seem to be pretty focused on charter work in Australia and I'm sure they wouldn't buy F50s if they didn't have local work lined up for them.
Funny story: Apparently there was a language barrier/misunderstanding when it came time to paint the registration on VH-FKY. The left hand side was fine, but the painters marked the right hand side as YKF-HV. Oops! Take two!

Alliance won't be 'Bitting more then it can chew' any more then Skywest with its supposed acquasition of the Airbus or Virgin with their E-Jets. They are a strong and established company with smart people pulling the strings. Why do people think that they are going to compete against XR with the 50's. The first two at least are going to AD.

Coming from a financial background, the point i was trying to make is that i have seen countless of companies go bust when they rapidly expand....
I can only gather Alliance have got some good financial planners behind them, as there F100 undergo a serious C-Check when purchased so costs Sh*tloads.....
I doubt we will see F50's operated by Alliance in Europe, but dont hold your breath of seeing these +3options going to europe as 'on sold'
Alliance wont operate F50 in competition with XR cause what XR have is closed RPT series, i.e no-one else can get on them.

Alliance Airlines Managing Director, Scott McMillan, has today announced the delivery of its first 56 seat Fokker F50 aircraft, VH–FKY. The second aircraft, VH-FKZ is scheduled to be delivered in early March. Alliance has options on a further 3 Fokker F50 aircraft.
The decision to purchase the aircraft followed a detailed review of the charter needs of the resources industry over the next 5 years. “The review identified a market requirement for a 50 - 60 seat turbo prop aircraft that could operate into airports with minium runway specifications and deliver high payloads, even in extreme temperatures” Mr McMillan said.
“The Fokker F50 was the stand-out choice. It is well known in Australia and has won a
reputation of delivering outstanding operational performance and excellent passenger comfort. The aircraft is also very cost efficient across short to medium haul routes Mr McMillan said.
Alliance has identified a number of customers for the aircraft. With its impressive payload performance, the aircraft is ideally suited to remote mining operations across Australia.
The Fokker F50 presents resource customers, who have growing workforces, the opportunity to increase seat capacity by up to 60% (compared to other turbo prop aircraft) without increasing flight frequency. The financial benefit of this is significant in terms of reduced unit cost per seat and simplified flight logistics.
Alliance has the trained personnel to commence flight operations once CASA certification is completed. “With an existing High Capacity Air Operators Certificate and the Fokker F50 already being in operation in Australia, this process is greatly simplified. Pilots, including check and training captains, and a number of F50 licensed engineers have already been recruited” Mr McMillan said.
Alliance Airlines is a privately owned Queensland based airline specialising in Fly In Fly Out operations to remote mining sites. Its customer base includes BHP Billiton Nickel West and
Cannington, Xstrata, Zinifex Santos, and Southern Cross Fertilisers. Alliance is also a major supplier of jet charter services to the Commonwealth Government and provide aircraft to third parties on both dry and wet leases.
Alliance has 11 Fokker F100 jet aircraft and the addition of the first two Fokker F50 aircraft greatly enhances the flexibility of its fleet whilst delivering important single manufacturer synergies.
Alliance is based in Brisbane and maintains a significant presence in Townsville and Perth. Alliance currently employs 219 staff.

This is going to be interesting for the WA market if they choose to base a couple there. I would imagine that would be highly likely given it's the largest mining charter market. So that will put Alliance and Skywest as firm competitors in both the jet and turboprop market while Skippers will also compete with their Dash 8-300s in the 50 seat category. Skippers have the established relationships with a number of existing mining companies, Alliance have bigger relationships and Skywest has a spare F50 around. Interesting to see what happens on that one!
