Forget Cathay, head to CHINA.....!
CHINA will require more than 2600 airplanes worth $US213 billion ($277 billion) over the next 20 years, US aircraft maker Boeing said in its 2005 market outlook today.
Overall, Boeing expects China will become the world's second-largest aviation market after the US, flying a 3200-strong fleet of planes within 20 years.
Most of the expansion will be in single aisle aircraft such as the Boeing 737, the report said. Of the 2600 new jets, an estimated 1678 will be single aisle.
"The high demand for single aisle airplanes will be driven by an increasing affluence among Chinese people and an increased desire to travel within China and in neighbouring countries," said Randy Basdler, vice president of marketing for Boeing.
"Continued development of the country's aviation infrastructure and the opening of new airports throughout the country will also enable China's rapid domestic air travel growth."
Worldwide, Boeing projected that operators would invest $US2.1 trillion for approximately 25,700 new commercial airplanes in the next 20 years.

While Boeing may well wish that the 737 will be the aircraft of choice, when you have 1.5 BILLION people who want to fly, the A380 suddenly becomes a more attractive proposition.
Forget the fact that these large aircraft were designed for long haul. We already see Mainland carrier A340-600s doing sector lengths that are handled by Dash8s in Oz.

Sorry to disappoint you..... but communist legislation in China at the moment "officially" forbids foreign pilots working for national carriers (that means all of them bar one new start up). Granted there are a few (a hand full) that are unofficially there, but the government will never admit to that.
Next time you are passing one of the flying schools in Oz that train Chinese pilots for the Chinese carriers, drop in and politely ask how much they will be getting paid when they get back to China. I think you will find you would be financially better off flying a C206 out of Port Keats NT!

...the other thing I have heard, and again sorry to disappoint, Boeing will NOT be selling any aircraft into China.
China will be making GMC copies for around $150,000 each. The upside if it crashes within two years, take it back and you'll get an exchange.

You are incorrect.
The CCAA does OFFICIALLY recognize foreign pilots there. You will need to sit their air legislation examination, which is interesting to say the least. You will need an ICAO licence, and you will need to have a type rating check in a simulator.
You will also have a work permit issued by the sponsoring airline.
Salaries/conditions - negotiate either direct with the airline or with the head-hunters.

I am happy doing what i am doing here in OZ, great job, perfect conditions, nice days off when i want. Easy as here...
Its just for the up and coming new wanna bees, a new line of thought. China is slowly changing employment and conditions as it grows.
China is member of the WTO, and expanding itself to become a global player, it CAN NOT find enough local boys to train up to fly these new aircraft. Just as in India will have the same issues when it expands with Kingfisher etc.
You can not drag a little chinese boy without the right skills to sit in the right seat and understands the basics. Sure so have it, but for now the change is growing faster than supply.
Look at CZ in Perth, its training school is growing so fast, with more planes and more jets on the way, who needs a flying school when you have a contract like this one to make the dollars rolling in. Good one Barney F.

BF been out of play for at least half a decade. Jets being moved to China.

Thought things opened up two years ago allowing pilots in ? Yes still need to have the local licence, and work permit, thought at least 100+ western pilots have been hired by Hainan Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Okay Airways. Granted it is a handful compared to the total number.
Pay is pittyful... US$2,500 to US$6,000 a month

Recent copy of Orient Aviation I think it was, reported the political barriers to foreign pilot employment have all been lifted and officially recognised by Beijing as regretfully necessary (work permit issues etc etc). A bit of 'loss of face' involved.
As in Europe the First Officer quite commonly gets a check to line with less than 400 hours TT. Progression to command from there takes about 7 years at Hainan.
Beats the crap out of the Australasian GA scene doesnt it
If the projections pan out there'll have to be a flood of expat jobs coming over the next few years, with conditions and pay rising accordingly.

I stand corected...... things have changed in China regarding ex-pat employment.
However the i still stand by the fact that the conditions are pitiful, and with the mainland carriers only just making a profit, don't expect conditions to get much better in the near future.

The country is changing for the better, 25 years ago you would not pay me enough to live there. Now its a whole new ball game.
All we pilots have to do now is learn the western world systems of paying the pilots by supply and demand to make that countries aviations skies safer.
Jepps have being doing VFR WAC, so things will be looking good for Private ownership of GA style of aircraft in the near future.
