Getting new ratings
Hi all,
long time since my last message in here... A colleague and I want to complete the full list of ratings in our licence (we have ADI,ADV,APS and ACS) in order to be suitable for hiring processes like the one going on in Spain but the courses we have found are a bit expensive. The best offer is 4 weeks course for both APP and ACP (procedural approach and area) starting in March ending at the end of the month. The more people in the course, the cheaper the licence will be. We are talking about a total cost of €49K. So 5 students will pay less than 10K for the 2 extra ratings (less than 8K pounds). Anyone interested? |
If noone pay for these courses, the company will have to ;)

Unless you are fluent in Spanish, you don't stand a chance of getting a job there.
|
True, ICAO level 4 is needed at least.
But on other countries like middle east that's not a requirement! |
The best offer is 4 weeks course for both APP and ACP (procedural approach and area) starting in March ending at the end of the month. 8 people each get 2 ratings after 4 weeks for GB£50,000 for everybody? Currently have ADI/ADV, Tower I/V ACS area radar. APS approach radar. :hmm::hmm: |
So to be clear. 8 people each get 2 ratings after 4 weeks for GB£50,000 for everybody? basically the total cost for getting APP and ACP is €49,000 (around 42,000 pounds). The cost per student is obtained depending on the number of students. price per student = €49,000 / number of students So in 4 weeks the students enrolling will get the 2 extra ratings (APP and ACP) The company offering the course has said that they flexible with the dates. |
I have no interest but am slightly fascinated by what is proposed.
At various points I have held different ratings. But never got one that I never held before in 4 weeks not to mention 2 ratings which I did not have in 4 weeks. Also slightly confused as you intimate you currently exercise Aerodrome/Approach radar and Area radar ratings. I would see the market for procedural approach as a step back in monetary terms for someone who holds a current APP Radar endorsement. Also procedural area? very few places would use this bar the NAT I doubt anyone else in EU does. Your logic to have a "full house" as it would make you more "employable" is slightly flawed. From your other posts I assumed you work for NATS. I believed that NATS Terminal and NATS Enroute were separate business. I would have assumed that you either worked one or the other and no crossover, so wondering are your current ratings all current? Regarding Currently have ADI/ADV, Tower I/V ACS area radar. APS approach radar. I am in the process of reducing not expanding my list  |
49k for 4 weeks? Something sounds dodgy to me. I know our training costs a bomb but seriously why step back? Procedural approach will have you working in secondary airports for less money. Maybe something to consider as a wind down pre retirement I suppose, not for that price though...

Confused atco

Confused ATCO. If you worked at Aberdeen you can exercise all those ratings....
|
...You could. But I don't think many people do. Unless it's normal practice that people are cross valid airport and offshore in the days since I was there.
I really don't understand how having APP and ACP will make you more employable given the ratings that you already hold. If you want a job at an airport you only need ADI and APS, if you want a job at a centre you only need ACS. |
At Farnborough, we used to be valid in ADC, (now ADV/ADI) APP,(Farnborough and Odiham - separate validations), APS (Farnborough and Odiham), PAR and ACS including 'autonomous' crossings of airways.
That was after the old 3 year ATCO Cadet course during which you gained all ratings (including ACP) apart from PAR. |
And what about Twr(rad)?
That's not requiered before getting hired in a tower? |
Not sure about other parts of the Middle East, but where I'm working, having more ratings in your licence isn't going to help you. The authorities want current time using specific ratings and a number of years experience to boot.

That's not requiered before getting hired in a tower? Things have changed in recent years and the CAA are allowing limited use of radar by tower controllers at some specifically authorised units, Farnborough - my old place of work - being one. |
I haven't double checked the documents but isnt' TWR(RAD) is an endorsment, not a rating?
Also I have TWR(RAD) in my license and I do not work at a unit which combines radar and tower, we do however have advanced use of the ATM and I believe that is why we have the rad endorsment. |
