NATS Student Accommodation

Could anyone please forward a link to a student accommodation website approved by NATS for the Bournemouth area?
Failing that message me the agents and ill google them.

Many thanks

Hi Calpal,

I assume you're getting close to going to the college - NATS circulates the accommodation info via the 'Departure Lounge' thing on their website - you'll be sent details of how to access it once you've passed everything and the medical too. HR set that up, so you can always contact them.

I don't know of any student accommodation website as such, and the accommodation list clearly states that NATS does not endorse any of the accommodation - it's up to you what to do and what it's like!

Sorry I can't help more...

thanks for the information, well to be honest Paperclip Ive only just done the first stage......lol but thought if i do manage to get through probs best to have a look now or see if there is something on the market, which is worthwhile rather than waiting and rushing about all last minute at the end.

paperclip810 24th February 2009 14:50

Calpal,

I see your point about trying to be organised in advance but there's not much you can do at this stage! People on NATS 219 (due to start April/May) are still in the process of getting to know each other and sort out accommodation - there's plenty of it in Bournemouth to go around so no worries there and everything does seem to get sorted out rather last minute....

Rightmove.co.uk has a load of stuff on there if you're curious, as does gumtree and check out facebook groups for NATS 218 or NATS 219 for discussions on B&B's.

yer ok i shall have a look on the old facebook. id be looking for more of a long term rental rather then a BB, means you can revise in your own space and no issues of time coming home after a night out etc, etc, etc but thanks for the info, what stage are you at if you dont mind me asking paperclip?

paperclip810 25th February 2009 10:02

I've passed Stage 3 (and all that came before it) and my medical - just waiting to start now (July).

The B&Bs don't seem to be as bad as they might sound (although ask those who already live in them maybe!) - they're usually wholly let out to TATCOs so it's not like being in a hotel or normal B&B. You get use of kitchen and living room etc so just like a big house.

There's plenty of rental stuff that people are willing to share, but signing contracts is a difficult issue as there's no guarantee that you'll be in Bournemouth for 6 months (due to various potential course-related issues).

Overall the best recommendations I've had are to live with other TATCOs so you can study together, and if you don't have a car, aim for where there's lots of people who do!

Transport

I got my pin for the departure lounge thingy the other day and had a look through the accommodation list.

there seems to be a bulk of B&B's in Westby Road area, handy if there are a lot of TACT's in the neighbourhood.

How easy is it to get about with no car though? have a car just now but had thought I would give it up to save on costs, not so sure now, if its gonna be at least five miles to CATC. any thoughts?

B&B's

I would recommend finding a B&B on Westby Road, I am leaving the Ravensbourne tomorrow and would suggest the Ravensbourne, Strand and Edwardian are probably the best. You get full use of kitchen and a lounge, they are TATC's only, so really good for study etc, and you can come and go as you please, at any time of night. I stayed there for 11 months and would advise against signing any contracts or leases on houses.

Good luck

I am leaving the Ravensbourne tomorrow
Where you off to Big Man ? MACC or LACC ?
Never got round to buying you that cup of tea on the Ryanair flight ! ;)

Glamdring 25th February 2009 13:31

What you got against the Reef Paul? Living the Dream! :ok:

calpal 25th February 2009 15:45

i have my own car and def not keen on giving it up! yet not to keen on the idea of becoming the local taxi guy, but then again could make some money out of it.... loL!

the issue is.... id prefer a house as i live 3 hours away and also have a few things.. I like to DJ in my spare time and would feel that if i stayed in a BB it would just anoy the hell out of the owners. where as if it is a rental/ student accom its expected lol! but hey we shall see who else gets through on the same group as me and go from there. They all seemed like nice people and the type you can get on with :)

The accomodation list from he departure lounge mentions hospital accommodation. Anyone use this?

General_Kirby 25th February 2009 18:14

Only after a particularly good night in Disco Fever.

Glamdring 25th February 2009 18:56

Is it not called "Lava Ignite" these days? :ok:

Standard Noise 25th February 2009 19:12

Are they still renting out flats at the hospital? Mmmm wall to wall nurses, just like the good old days......

calpal 27th February 2009 13:06

hahahaaa... .whats that about wall to wall nurses hummmm??

JonathanB 27th February 2009 14:18

So what sort of cost are the B&Bs that people use?

I would plan on going home at weekends as it's not that far (1.5 hours away - just too far to commute I think).

PaulM 28th February 2009 15:25

Mr Novello

Howdy,
I'm going to MACC for a while. Which is really good, because that means I'll be going home soon.

Hope you're enjoying your posting ;)

Westby Road has been popular with TATCs/Cadets for as long as I can remember. It was certainly popular 35 years ago.

Well worth staying with other TATCs as it certainly helps with the studying.

As for transport, make sure someone has a car. College is not well served by public transport. Despite the popularity of the airport I think there is just an hourly bus from Bournemouth.
