congrats you too! mm i didnt.. but i might as well ask about the feast results.. the interview must have been good xD.

EDIT: Sorry, wrong post

JoostRoozen 21st November 2010 18:03

Hey Gina90,

I did call for feedback actually. For the phase 1 feedback you have to call Sarah Teed, and for the phase 2 and 3 you need to call David Artieda (looks like it xD)

Sarah told me she couldn't give me the exact scores but she could tell me an overall result.

I did everything extremely good :D My english was the worst but the rest was excellent!! I couldn't believe it because the multi-task thing went horribly wrong! :P

For the phase 2 and 3 feedback i'm going to call next week.

hi JoostRoozen,

did you call the number below Sarah's name in the EC-mails?

iceman2160 21st November 2010 22:45

hey everybody, this forum has been quite useful for all sort of information regarding the selection process so I've signed up.
Anyone else around here that had the FEAST on 16th november?

Antonia Maria 22nd November 2010 15:20

If I am 18 years old and I'm still in high school can I apply for the air traffic controller trainee?

iceman2160 22nd November 2010 19:00

Not yet, you need to finish high school and take the end of high school exam.
After you have the diplomas (diploma for finishing high school and the bacalaureat diploma) you may apply.

Gina90 23rd November 2010 08:30

Well, I'm still at school and I passed the Interview 2 weeks ago...
so I think it's possible to apply without the final exams...

PhiltheReaper 23rd November 2010 09:21

WOW this is a long thread! I missioned it through the first 20 odd pages, but after that I admin, I buckled and skipped to the last!

A lot of useful information in this thread, and a lot of repeated information! :O

It almost reads like EUROCONTROL is an easier process than NATS?

What would those with experience make of that comment?

Cheers,
Phil

JoostRoozen 23rd November 2010 09:49

Hey Stelar,

After I heard I passed the interview I wanted some feedback. So I sended Imke an e-mail with the question how to get it.

Then she emailed me 2 numbers back. I don't have them right now.. I will search them for you ;)

@Iceman: you can apply, you need to be in the last year (i thought).
@Antonio Maria: yes you can apply. But you need to get your diploma this year. And if you really want to be 100% sure, Gina did the test the last couple of weeks and passed, she is still in high school. Otherwise just call Imke!

JoostRoozen 24th November 2010 13:56

Hey all,

I got an email this afternoon from Sarah Teed that I can start in May.
Offcourse I have to pass my medical on the 22,23 or 24th of February.

Any tips for the medical? Do you need to have a good condition or is it only your health?

Thanks allready!

Joost

Hey guys,

if I pass the medical and sec. check then I'll be one of the May group.
Any future-mate? Messages here or in pm are more than welcome.

Cheers!

Joostroozen what do you say for sharing a flat during the training?:]

JoostRoozen 29th November 2010 16:35

Hi Stelar,

Who are you xD Did we meet on the first or second phase?
I think accomodation is taken care of for the first 9 months..

But if we come back to Maastricht it would be great to have a nice room mate ;)

After some emailing with Sarah I might even be in the January group! If other people cancel or fail their medicals.. Then I would start in Belgium! Much closer to my own house.. Would be a lot better for me..

I will let you all know ;)

Any tips on preparing for stage 2?

Skywards777 29th November 2010 17:24

Hi All,

Any idea how long it usually takes for them to get back to you with the online test details?

Cheers,
Sam

band1tu 30th November 2010 06:33

at the interview, i was told that accommodation is provided.

JoostRoozen 30th November 2010 09:31

You mean the BAQ personality test and the motivation test?

You won't get the results from those. They will discuss them at the interview.

Tips for stage 2, stay calm, sleep well, know your english and know what a flight plan is ;)

Skywards777 10th December 2010 14:23

Does anyone in the UK know where they do the 'Certificate of Visual Performance'? I went into Specsavers today (where I had my eye test done last week) and they said they were unable to complete it.

Cheers

JoostRoozen 10th December 2010 14:57

Hey Skywards,

I don't know about the UK. But every opticien I went to couldn't complete it either. Nobody had the right equipment.

I would advise you to look up a special eye center.. Or the hospital (that is where I tested my eyes (they filled in the whole form).

Be sure to do it as soon as possible! When I called the eye center in august (a special kind of place that focusses on (geuss what) eyes..) they said the first possible date was 15 november.. So do it fast!

Hope you find this usefull!

Skywards777 10th December 2010 15:21

I'll try the hospital tomorrow, thanks! :)

Something happening quickly on the NHS... Never!

Bárbara From Spain

Hello ¡¡¡¡

I am Bárbara from Spain. I suppossed you are from here also, but anyway , I am going to talk to you in english.

I am writing to you cause I have to go in January to do phase 1 ¡¡¡

Do you have any idea , what I have to do?¿?¿

In which phase are you in?

I´ll wait for your reply .

Thanks in advanced.

Barxi 15th December 2010 12:32

Hi Phil ,

Are you there???

JoostRoozen 15th December 2010 16:55

Hello Barxi,

First of all, good luck with phase 1!

The people here come from many different places ;) I'm from the Netherlands but there are also people from Spain, Italy, Germany, France and other countries.

Phase 1 exist of the FEAST test, and if you pass that, another test called the SDM test.

The FEAST test are many different little excersises. Think of, reaction speed, multi task abilities, english language, abilities you need to be an succesful air traffic controller.

For more detailed information read this page: FEAST test - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SDM test, Strip Display Management test is done after you passed the FEAST test in the afternoon. First you will get a training that takes around 1 hour to finish. You learn how to sort, delete, and change flight strips. Also you learn how to find Local and Opposing conflicts.

After the training you'll have to do the actual test. Takes about half an hour. You will have to do all the things you just learned.

Don't worry if you don't know the words.. You don't need any preparation for both the tests. Just have a good night of sleep and stay focussed during the day.

Every test will be explained and again, no preparations required.

Hope this helps!

best wishes,

Joost

White14 17th December 2010 14:44

Hi JoostRoozen!

I wanted to ask you about all the procedure of phase 1 and phase 2.
How it works? I am from Lithuania, and if I am going to Maastricht UAC, how long I have to be there? One day, two days? When I will know if I passed phase 1, when EC will invite me to the second phase?
And how is with the trip expenses? EC is buying a ticket, or I am buying it and latter they are giving money refund?
Thank-you for all the information:)

JoostRoozen 17th December 2010 20:24

Hello White14,

I explained the day of Phase 1 in my last post.
If you're from far away you'll get a hotel room for 1 or 2 night before the day of testing. There is also an oppurtunity to get one 1 or 2 nights after.

The travel expenses are reimbursed (so you'll pay them yourself and get them back.) You also get an extra 10 euro's for the bus trip from the hotel to Eurocontrol and back.

At Eurocontrol you get some breakfast and lunch vouchers to have something to eat.

After the first part (the FEAST test) you'll have to wait about an hour or an hour and a half for the results.. This is when the tension builds up ;)

You'll get a letter that says if you passed or failed. When you passed, you go to the SDM test, if you fail, you go home.

After the SDM test it's time to go back home, or to the hotel.

After a few days you'll get an e-mail saying that you passed or failed. If you passed you'll get an invitation for phase 2. I don't know what the time between the fases is. It's not a standard.

When you get invited for phase 2 it's the same story. You get a hotel room for the amount of days you need.

At the day of testing you go to Eurocontrol, you'll get the vouchers and you start with a group discussion. You'll get some information and have to solve a problem TOGHETER!! Make sure everyone says some usefull things. When you'll solved it, a women will come with some additional information that might change your solution.

After that it's time for an individual test, make a flight plan. After that you'll have to present your plan to 3 observers, you'll get some questions and then it's waiting again, till everyone presented their plan.

After that you'll go discuss your plans in another group discussion. You'll probably take something out of each plan and make a final plan.

Then you'll have some lunch and go to the Ops Room. That is where the fun begins! You'll get to sit next to a working Air Traffic Controller for about half an hour. Afterwards you'll have the feeling you could sit there the rest of the day. Just ask him anything you want, they explain it all and you'll learn something!!

Then again, it's time to go home. You'll get a call probably the same day. Again it's pass or fail.

Fail means, game over
Pass means you'll have to go to the interview. It's 1,2 or 3 days after the phase 2 test. So you'll probably stay in Maastricht then.

The interview takes about 60 to 90 minutes. They ask you things about your motivation, family and much more. At the end of the interview you'll have to solve 2 or 3 problems. You'll have to explain the way you think.

If you're lucky you can call them in the afternoon, otherwise it's around a week later.

Fail or pass, same story.

If you pass you'll get an invitation for the medical examination. I've got mine 22 february so I can't tell you anything about that..

Hope you'll find this usefull. If you have anymore questions just ask!

I'll answer you next week. I'm going on a holiday tomorrow so no time to check the forum then!!

White14 18th December 2010 15:25

Thank You so much for explaining me everything so clearly! I have an exam session in university in January, so I just wanted to know how long I have to be inMaastricht UAC. If it is only for two days that's OK, I can handle with my exams, I just don't wanna make an impression, that I don't care about the ATC position, it is very important for me, I just didn't know that EC is going to invite me in January! And I am really happy for that!!! :)))
By the way, have a nice holiday!!!

Barxi 18th December 2010 15:26

HI :)

When do you have to go to Maastricht?

Regards,

Bárbara

White 14 ¡¡¡¡

When did they tell you ? The last week of November?

When do you have to go in January?

I don´t know the date yet.

Bárbara

White14 19th December 2010 13:55

Hi Barbara!

I don't know the exact date, they just said to me, that they gonna contact me in January and will give me the date. What about you? EC said the same for you?

JoostRoozen 22nd December 2010 16:03

@Barbara, date will be given to you on time! Don't worry about that.
@White, found an internet connection. don't worry about the date. If you can't make it just tell them, they invite you on another day.. don't know how long it will take before they give you a new date then.

I hope you both pass! Just be sure to read a little bit about the FEAST test but don't try to prepare yourself.. Don't train all your abilities.. They need to be inside of you allready to be really succesfull.

Make sure you're in Maastricht on time and get a good night sleep they day before the test.

Let me know if it works out for you! If you have more questions just ask them.. I will answer them probably somewhere this week or next week.

After 22 february I will let you know more about the medical examination. If I pass that I'm in!

Best wishes,

Joost

SPeety 22nd December 2010 17:11

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!

controlfreakhun 24th December 2010 21:58

Hey peeps.

Submitted my application and got an e-mail that they will provide a date for phase one testing in January.

I checked out the FEAST and its pretty neat. I just have some issues with the damn cube folding. Can't get my brain on it. Do anyone know how much it contributes for the full score? :)

Have a merry xmas!

Stelar 25th December 2010 10:10

-

Hey controlfreakhun,

you have to keep and maintain a high performance during the whole test and this means that you have to be good with the cubes, too.
As far as I know there is a scale (1-9) for every single task and you have to reach at least 5 or 6 to be successful.

Long story short: if you screw up the cubes there is no chance to go and sit the SDM. This iscreweditbutididgreattheotherssotheresnoneedtoworry-thing doesn't work here, sadly :]

controlfreakhun 25th December 2010 13:47

Cheers stelar.

Then i guess have to work out some sort of tactics for the cubes. Or at least practice it a bit before the tests.

Just one more thing though. Asking the ones who alredy passed the phase 1. With the cubes, how many possible answers are? 2 and a "No cube applies" or there is more folded cubes like 3-4?
