Biggin Hill Transit

Hi Guys

Out of courtsey i thought i would ask this question.

I've been doing a lot of transits west-east-west, Ockham-Biggin-Detling etc and as usual Farnborough Lars do a great job but they always suggest i call Biggin Appr to let them know i'm there.
Can i just ask would you prefer an overhead transit rather than north or south transit to avoid arriving/departing traffic? or does it cause the same workload on a busy day.

many thanks

If you really MUST transit the Biggin ATZ, you normally need to call Biggin, otherwise remain clear as Biggin are normally VERY busy with mixed IFR/VFR traffic.

Depends what is happening at the time. As you are probably aware the IFR departures from runway 21 route via the overhead (supposedly!) then towards DET.

Overhead routings are normally accomodated whenever possible. If the ATZ is busy then I would suggest south abeam, following the M25 if VFR, is the best alternative course of action.

North abeam is nasty due to inbound traffic on the ILS and outbounds who have missed the overhead:eek:
