Question: "Call ABC Callsign only"
 

In the UK when given an instruction to contact a director/tower etc with "Callsign only", when I check in on the next frequency am I expected to literally give my callsign only or should I include the title of the agency I am calling as well?

Don't see any problem giving their callsign too - just don't give me the whole spiel of speed, level, heading, etc. that's what we need to avoid on an already busy freq. :ok:

"xyz tower, ABC on frequency"

It doesn't really matter. I wouldn't lose sleep over whether to include the station's callsign or not. The main objective is that you don't clutter the (usually very busy) frequencies with heading, altitude and speed information that we can already see written on the strip since it is physically passed from the guy or girl sitting next to us.

Not a massive distinction to add but if you're coming to my tower frequency, it's not actually (usually...) a particularly busy frequency, nor is the transferring position sat next to me. However, it is time critical and as a result, I don't want the spiel either because if you're timing's bad a go around could easily result.

Strictly speaking, you should state the callsign of the station being addressed on first call but as previous posters have said, don't sweat on it too much, so long as I have your callsign, I'm happy enough.

Blimey, is the instruction really that difficult to understand?!

Am I missing the point here? Its not exactly rocket science guys.... Callsigh only simply means that when you call director you say "Director ABC 123" Full stop, end of story, finito. Do we really need to discuss such trivia to the n'th degree....discuss!!
