St Mawgan MATZ
Heya Guys,
With mil operations terminating on the 31st, what is happening in relation to the MATZ? Will this be downgraded to an ATZ on the 1st? Cheers, Alex |
Good question. The MATZ will disappear with the handover to civil use........ whenever that happens.
One thing though, the ATZ already exists, and being a Government aerodrome is H24. The H24 bit may change. Rgds BEX |
There's nothing in the UK civil AIP about it becoming a civil airfield so I would assume it will remain a 'government' airfield until a civil licence is granted, hence it will still have an ATZ of 2.5nm radius up to 2000ft agl; no telling about the MATZ but as this is class G airspace and not mandatory for civil aircraft they may well dis-establish it.

Handover's not due till December 1st - see this.

It's all doooooomed. Why bother? The money can't last without serious operations.
|
When St Mawgan becomes a civillian airfield the MATZ will go immediately and it will also cease to be a Government Aerodrome.
The ATZ will be active in accordance with the published hours of aerodrome operation, i.e if the airfield is published open H24, then so will be the ATZ. That said, with the staffing of ATC which was originally proposed by the management, there's not a hope in hell of operating a full ATC service H24. |
the money has already been found. every pax for the last few years who has walked through the airport has had to pay £5
|
Its not planned to be 24 hours ops , its going to be 0600 -2200 ish, i believe. Adverse - if you think the £5 passenger fee is going to pay for the running costs, you are either on a different planet or not in the industry .That £5 is a drop in the ocean to what is needed.
|
its going to be 0600 -2200 ish, i believe Airhop - why bother? because somebody obviously sees some potential in the place - lets hope they are not as pessimistic as you! The place hasn't even started operations in its own right and you are writing it off already. |
Good luck to NQY , its about time there was some real competition for Exeter. Exeter have wasted the opportunity to become the airport for the South West
|
To answer the original question, the MATZ will remain until handover (curently 1Dec08) as St Mawgan is still a military airfield until that date.
|
Why bother? The money can't last without serious operations They could do with more GA and other activity to spread the load. Maybe once the military have gone they can persuade them to come in for exercises at vast cost....and no doubt there are plans to sell off/develop the vast south side of the airfield. NS |
