Nats - Trainee Air Traffic Controller - Selection Test And Personality

Hello all,

I will be undertaking these tests next month.

The email I received confirming the date also had a link to some test questions, here http://natscareers.co.uk/docs/NATS_P...e_Leaflet2.pdf

I got 100% on the first two, but the third one, Diagramming, I only got 2 correct.

Can someone tell me where to get more examples to practice on?

Thanks.

Craig51, might be worth posting this in the ATC forum....there's a thread running there with hundreds of posts about the NATS selection process.:ok:

How come it seems like for every one aviation test in the U.S. there are 3 more in the U.K? I took the ATC exam here in New York and passed, what is the Nats one like?

ATC First stage test

Hello,

I have my first stage test on this Friday and I am currently looking through the booklet. Do you have to learn all the aircraft types with heights, weight, passenger loads?

Please help, any tips will be great!

I took those test questions - and failed dismally!!! I wonder how they determine one's ability to become a controller?

I took them a couple of weeks ago, you need to be familiar with the different aircraft. There are questions such as "What aircraft would you use to fly from X to Y". I didn't have anything particularly specific about cruising speed/passenger capacity, but that's not to say you won't be asked.

As a hopeful who has spent many an hour researching all of the selection test process, I too have pondered the same question - the answers vary from 'HR know what they are doing and all of the skills you need to be a controller can be found within these tests' to 'there will always be false negatives and false positives regardless of which system you use.'

For me, I'll just need to practice, practice, practice the cubes as that's my biggest shortcoming. I can always hope the cubes will be removed by the time I apply, but I doubt that very much.

I still query the relevance...:hmm:

NATS online initial test?

Hi all,

I am currently applying to Trainee air traffic controller. Does anyone have any info or feedback on the initial online test?

Many thanks.

Having just been through the entire, gruelling, recruiting process myself - the only advice I think is pertinent is:

If you've got it, you've got it. If you don't, you don't.

Sorry to be so blunt. :bored:

Kiwi Chick has it right, but the fun comes when no one knows whether you have it or not. Not HR. Not some crappy test. Not an over inflated sense of ability. It seems the only way to tell is to get someone in to do it - and even then it's often hard to tell until towards the end of training when you can start testing at the required levels of traffic and complexity.

If anyone can reliably predict thos who've "got it" they could make a mint!

kiwi chick 21st August 2012 12:20

Well said by Dan - I especially think the "over inflated sense of ability" is perhaps the best hint he's given you.

I didn't for one minute think I'd got it - until I got the phone call saying I'd got it.

:ok:
