I am not sure if there are any "changes" as such to the testing. But the type of questions for each domain MIGHT change. For instance, one could study spatial tests with 3d cubes (because they used these in the test on the applicant's first attempt) only to end up with a different spatial test using rotated shapes, if that makes sense.

If you're not aware already, the tests involve verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, numerical calculations, spatial reasoning and checking tests. On successful completion of this, you will be invited to complete the OPQ (occupational personality questionnaire). To my understanding, you will only go to the assessment centre if you pass both the Online Ability Assessment and OPQ.

Feel free to PM me and I'll link you some of the sites I am doing practice tests with.

Hi can you please suggest some sites for practice test. Cheers

It is wonderful news :D Good luck for the assessment centre! As previously stated, gotta brush up on some speed/time/distance formulas

Airservices

I didn't get through either.

Pretty gutted considering I was apparently at the next stage.

Good luck to everyone who has made it to the next stage.

What were you asked during the phone interview?

jazzycab 14th July 2018 04:37

Thanks CapnCoastie, kusinka and Chopz. Sorry to hear that some have missed out, hopefully you can be successful in the future. The Assessment Centre testing sounds a little daunting...

They basically just asked why I'm interested in aviation and working for them, then organised a time for the assessment centre.

I don't mean to sound like a sore loser here, but does anyone else get the feeling that this intake was a sham?

Something gives me the impression that this was a tiny intake of very few candidates where in comparison to previous intakes, only a tiny percent progressed beyond the online testing.

Looking over previous intakes through this thread, it seems that there are large numbers being invited to the assessment day and this time, only a couple. It is also odd that they had an intake barely 6 months from the last, when previously they have been every 12 or 18 months. It is also bizarre that they gave only 48 hours to do the test and have seemingly invited candidates to the assessment day without even doing the OPQ test.

I feel as if I have wasted a chance by applying for this sham intake rather than one of the 'proper' ones they have done previously.

Yeah, I get that feeling too.

For some reason there was no OPQ? There was a telephone 'interview' when that was actually taken away. It seems it was a wasted opportunity for most people.

The problem I have is that Airservices Australia will have a !!!!eload of people applying. I don't think it's matters to them how much of a sham the recruitment process is. Considering that it seems so many don't make it through the training academy that they would actually look at their recruitment process.

Chopz 15th July 2018 06:16

Forgot to add they have progressed people who haven't actually even completed the phone interview even.

It's pretty bizarre.

Hi All,

First of all, well done Jazzycab on your offer to attend the training centre.
I also got a call on the 12th of July asking me to attend, but unfortunately due to my state with work at the moment I can't (doing it in the September intake instead)
I don't remember having to do an OPQ, so I'm assuming the interview on the day will work determine your personality?
The lady I spoke to said there were over 2000 applicants, so to get an invite to the assessment centre was never going to be easy (I think only 50 odd make it that far, as previous posts hint that only 10 or so people get invited per day?).

Thanks AKorol, best of luck for your assessment day.
I heard similar numbers in terms of applicants and assessment centre invitees.

Will also be doing it in September as I'll be overseas during this months. Might see you there :).

I forgot to ask when I was on the phone, did she happen to mention if they're readvertising in September making the assessment centres likely in October/November or if the centres are definitely running in September?

Hi Vandelayy,

Good work too!!!
She called this the July intake, so I’m going to crudely assume that the September intake will have their testing day first week of October.

Hi Vandelayy,
We were a part of the July intake, so the testing for the September intake by deduction should be the start of October.
More than happy to bump into like minded people!

AKorol 18th July 2018 02:36

September intake dates released, week starting Monday 17/9 (I'm on the Monday).

Just got a call and booked my day in for mid September. I'm surprised as to how fast everythings moving even with a delay on my end. All the best with your assessment day!

Can I ask what your guys' profiles said for the last week? Mine just says 'application update' but I haven't heard one way or another yet..

Application Update

Hi ThirstyVessel,

Mine says application update (possibly because I booked in an assessment centre time yesterday over the phone but now I’m waiting on an email link to come through this week to confirm and get further details etc.) I didn’t check my profile last week because I was under the impression it took them ages to inform people they reached the next stage, so it came as a surprise when I got the call. Sorry if that doesn’t really help you and all the best,

Andrew

Mine always said application update, but when you click on 'view application' it had additional info
