My understanding is that they're only training a few people a year for tower at the moment so the current wait for a course could be well over a year |
Anyone else received news on 9 Nov start?
Odd that we interviewed together bennett but I haven't heard about a 9 Nov course start -- and I opted for enroute! Have you submitted and cleared all your Class 3s and the security check? EDIT: Just rang HR today - I applied at a later date, so I'll be on the next course instead |
Request for info
Hi All!
I have been following this thread for a while now yet this is the first time I am posting. I am an ATC from Europe entertaining the thought of applying for the job posted recently by Airservices. While I admit I have not read all 164(?) pages of the discussion, there is a wealth of information in here already for which I am thankful. I have read through the ATC Enterprise Agreement and familiarized myself with the contents yet I always find it is beneficial to get the details from those who work by them. So if any of you would be kind enough to PM me with some details regarding how an average week/month looks like I would greatly appreciate it. I am most interested in the roster for TCUs but all pieces of information are welcome. Thank you very much in advance! |

That is the roster worked in UK and Middle East. One group in Brisbane worked something similar but with day shifts every few weeks (could be more these days). I am not a current employee but your rosters are based on a fatigue score maximum value and not less than 10 hours between (and some other technicalities). Afternoon, day, morning and back same night then 2 off was the traditional way of doing things.
StATCLover, I see you asking for details about the future EBA but it seems you have not read the current one properly. http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/...05_2012_15.pdf Page 19 onwards refers to work hours. Create what ever you (they) want based on those rules. In my opinion it is a bad idea having duty hours covered in the Enterprise Agreeement as they become a bargaining chip every 3 years. They should be contained in the Civil Aviation Regulations. |
I see Airservices are recruiting for international applicants again, is this something which is likely to continue for the foreseeable future? It seems to open for a period every year now.
|
I'd think so for at least the next five years. Understand this is just my opinion as a controller - I have no inside knowledge of recruiting plans.
Our age profile is rather top heavy - plenty of us will be 50+ in five years and looking at retirement. We're moving to a new system between 2018 and 2021 (on paper at least) so need extras to cover the transitional period - I'd expect any surplus numbers will be rapidly absorbed in replacing retirements. Basically we're pedalling hard with training and barely keeping up. |
A number of international recruits have gained PR and continued working. Sorry, no idea what support Airservices gives in obtaining PR, other than presumably offering continued employment.
|
Thanks very much, le Pingouin!
The IMMI note that any one, holding 457visa and has been working for at least two years, can apply for PR if his/her employer would like to nominate him/her for a permanent position. For those gained PR, are they nominated just after two years' service or they have to wait till the end of the 4-year-term? Maybe a little hard for you to have this kind of information....thanks again! |

Hi Kpnagidi:
I check the FAQs. There seems some contradictions. AsA says you get PR first, then they would consider permanent offer. While Immi says you get Permanent offer first, then they would consider your application for PR.... I am quite confused.... Thank you very much for your reply! |
AsA will not (at this time, neither forseen in the future) sponsor for PR. If you, I, get PR, they might offer permanent employment. There are visas that require being sponsored and other that don't. I suggest you check what's avail at immi, weigh the risk involved and it's a personal decision only you can make. Certainly no guaranties.
All the best. |
Have, do you have level 6 English?

Long time reader, first time poster of this thread. Was reading this Airservices adds flight simulator course for trainee air traffic controllers | Australian Aviation and wondered if it was still part of the training of controllers, doing the flight sims and jump seat rides on airlines. Sounds great!

Snikeron or anyone else, I'm curious as to when you started the application process? I started back in Nov last year and I found out in June this year that I got through. HR also told me that there will be nothing for me until at least the next financial year. So I've got nearly a year wait now for a course!!

I was told I'm starting on 9th of November. Anybody else in the same course?
I am also starting down in Melbourne on 9th November. Feel free to email me. |
Trainee/candidate age
Recently noticed ASA advertising for ATC trainees. At 47, well-educated and cognitive functions still "not too bad", would my age be an impediment to be considered as a serious contender for trainee candidate? Is there a mandatory/preferred retirement age for ATC's?
Thanks, James |
Still waiting....
I started my application process in July 2014, told in Dec 2014 that I passed interview. The last email I received was in May 2015 informing me that I had been successful and put forward for a short course. They are looking at dates for July 2016 but I am still awaiting an offer letter and to be told tower/area/en route.
Hopefully something is forthcoming soon, the HR process seems to take its time. Good look to all in the process. |
Hi RVL Roll
Congratulations on getting this far in the process. May I ask if you have been asked to complete your medical? If so when in the process they asked? Thanks |
Hey everyone,
I've been following this thread for a while (since I began my application in March) and first of all would like to thank you all for the questions and answers so far which have helped me greatly. As I said above, I submitted my application back in March 2015. In early May I received the email asking me to do online testing by mid May. I thought I did perfect and a couple of days later I received the email asking for the OPQ for which I was given another few days to complete. So far, so good, moving pretty fast with the tests. After that, there was a long pause, until June 29, before they told me I had passed that too and would need to book an interview. I was a bit worried during this pause but reading comments on here assured me that there is quite a gap before the interview booking. I booked it that same day and had my interview at the start of August. Since then however I have heard nothing. They told me I would find out within a week how I went but it's been almost 4 weeks since then. My application status says On-Hold for Upcoming Assessment Centre. Does this mean I passed the interview? Could they have forgotten to call or email or made a mistake? Thanks for reading this far and for any help you can provide. |
