Well my medical test results have finally made it to CASA. I spoke to one of the medical assessors there, and they said that I should have my medical clearance in 2-4 days if there are no problems with my results. Fingers crossed! Then I can finally start planning my move to Brissie.

Forlife..yep I know how you feel.

Try this link Careers at Airways

If you can do those comfortably then you will do fine. You can either do the tests or you can't..it's not like you can research how to do them.

Is there anyone here on the Jan 12th Course? Message me.

I've posted this in the 'experienced' thread also but I'll post here also in case it's missed:

Hi all,

Valid controller here who has been offered a place with ASA...en-route in Melbourne. If any kind soul who has made a similar transition from the UK be kind enough to PM me as I have some Qs regarding training/work etc that I would really appreciate being answered!

Is anyone else still awaiting their medical clearance from CASA? The wait is driving me nuts! Trying to plan a move when you don't know if you're actually moving is very painful indeed.

Is it a bad sign that my paperwork has been getting reviewed by the dr since last Friday? I was told about a month ago by one of the CASA staff that if everything was ok it usually takes a couple of days to review. I thought everything was ok, but maybe not?

SoontobeinMelbourne 17th December 2014 23:51

Thanks Sam, that's put my mind at ease :) Thought it was taking too long, but I'm still under a week so that's good.

This close to Christmas, your class 3 application is probably sitting in someone's in-tray being completely ignored. Give them a call and chase it up. There have been people put on later courses because CASA couldn't get their act together and get the certification done in time.

pineappledaz 18th December 2014 03:37

If you have your ARN, try logging into the CASA self service portal. You can look at any applications in there.

SoontobeinMelbourne 18th December 2014 21:23

CASA self service portal

Thanks Daz. Do you mean under Service Requests? If so, that is empty for me.

Tom.RQM 21st December 2014 05:36

Medical applications don't show in Service Request's for some unknown reason. I think the service requests are held for licensing applications. But if you go to the tab 'Medical Details' it will give you the status of your medical. If it say's 'delayed', then they are processing it and once it changes to 'Pass' you'll be emailed your medical.

SoontobeinMelbourne 22nd December 2014 00:43

Unfortunately I don't have a tab that says Medical. All I have is Home, My Profile, Service Requests and Subscriptions.

Tom.RQM 22nd December 2014 08:17

Hmm must be something that comes up after your medical is processed. That is quite annoying.

ASD 22nd December 2014 09:08

Nope, I got my medical certificate but also don't have that tab.

They were very quick to respond to my emails on checking the status however.

Yet another test

Well yesterday I called CASA and have found out I need to have yet another medical test. It's one called Maintenance of Awakeness Test (MWT). I've googled it and it sounds horrid. Will be wasting an entire day on it. Can't get in anywhere now of course as all the specialist offices are closed, so will have to try in the new year.

The likeliness of getting my medical clearance in time for my course on the 2nd of March is quickly diminishing :(

Airservices Australia ATC Super fund options

Can anyone employed with Airservices Australia as an ATC provide an informed and unbiased opinion on which Super fund is the better option between PSSap or AvSuper. I am currently with PSSap in my current job and I start with Airservices as an ATC in training in March. I have the option of staying with PSSap which is platinum rated or switching to AvSuper which is gold rated, but performed very well over the last 3 years. Regards. (PM me if you wish)

Hi All
My husband is starting en route training in a few months. He's not a forum kinda guy so I thought I'd quickly jump in here to see if you could answer a question for me! We had been planning on a 3 week trip overseas in Oct/Nov next year but I'm not sure what the leave situation will be for him? I imagine he'll be in field training throughout these months so will leave have to wait? And if so, when would be the earliest he could take leave? He doesn't mind either way, he's just looking forward to the job and will make any sacrifices needed, I personally would just like to know so I can plan accordingly. Any info regarding leave would be much appreciated.

WhisprSYD 12th January 2015 20:29

Beegee:
If, as you suggest, the planned holiday falls within final field training then it shouldn't be too difficult to take 3 weeks leave. It's all just a matter of timing though. If it happens to fall a few weeks after final checks then the chances would be slim to none and most would recommend NOT taking leave in the first few months after rating.
His best bet would be to make the trainee coordinator aware of the booked holiday early on at the academy, then they can make sure the information gets passed on to the relevant ATC group as soon as it's known where he will be heading so that final field training can be planned around it.
As far as practicality of it goes, taking leave prior to, or just after, the field sim would be ideal. Leave in the early stages of field training wouldn't be too disruptive, leave towards the end of field training would be..

Haven't been back on here for a while, but I'm starting Enroute training in Melbourne on April 13th.

If anyone else is starting around the same time, feel free to get in contact with me.
