Whats the best M reg you seen so far?
With a wave of the very trendy M (IOM) reg's being issued, whats the best you seen so far?
Such as MOTOR etc... |
Interestingly, with these callsigns that spell words, I have in the past heard them use the word as the callsign rather than the phonetic alphabet. Is this acceptable?
For example, there was a German King Air reg'd D-IANA which used the callsign "Diana" rather than "Delta India Alpha Nov' Alpha" Recently, I heard "Spiky" (SP-IKY, another King Air) descending inbound one of the London area airfields. With the introduction of the Manx reg', there are quite a few possibilities, Motor, Mandy, Mungo, Marty, Minga etc.. FC |
Over the last few months, I've had a S-EXFM and G-AYIM.
The more sedate IoM registrations have been M-OTOR and M-OORE |
MELON and MAGIC are the two I've seen down the southern sectors

I remember two BAC111s that used to fly into Brum in the [very] early '70s...DANDY and DAISY...both I think re-allocated watp, iktch |

I was always interesting in registration issue.
The best one that I saw is : LZ BTZ at first glimpse nothing interested but further analysis: LZ- Two letters designated country. In this case Bulgaria / for those less familiar with current situation in EU- Newest member of EU ! The third letter B- usually designates that a/c is not in commercial traffic i.e. state a/c carrying VIP . In this case VIP Tu-154 TZ- abrevation for TODOR ZIVKOV- famous Bulgarian Head of State during their communist era. Friend of Chausesku, Stalin, Hruscov, Erih Honeker and other communist brains from Cold War era. It was very logic in that time to give registration in such manner. The joke is today. this a/c still has the same registration, carrying now democratic and European minded politicians from Bulgaria. |
I remember seeing G-NADS in a hangar at RAF Halton a couple of years back, will someone register a De Havilland Beaver as M-INGE ?
I wanted to register a balloon as G-SPOT as the retrieve crew would spend all evening trying to find it. I love the story about EI-EIO, all together now........"Old Macdonald was dyslexic, eioie" |
Plane Reg's can be better than car ones.
|
Suppose it could be bad when they have something like MAYBE and used that as the callsign instead of the phonetics, "report established" response "Maybe wilco" lol
